ZTE Anthem 4G announced, headed to MetroPCS soon
The specs are about what you would expect from today’s mid range Android device. It’s packing a 4.3 inch WVGA display, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU, 4GB ROM, 512MB RAM, HDMI output, and a 5 megapixel shooter in the back. To make up for the lack of storage, there is a MicroSD card slot included. Some additional features include dual microphone for better call quality, Dolby Surround Audio, and the ability to use MetroPCS 4G Hotspot.
There is one downside though, and that is that the ZTE Anthem 4G will be shipping with Android Gingerbread. In a world where Jelly Bean is the flavor of the year and most handsets ship with at least Ice Cream Sandwich, this can be a real drawback. ZTE hasn’t announced whether the phone will be updated to at least Ice Cream Sandwich.
Who would want to buy the ZTE Anthem 4G?
If you’re looking for the best Android has to offer, then the ZTE Anthem 4G very likely isn’t for you. However, if you want a dual-core device that’ll run relatively well –at least as well as last year’s dual-cores– without a hefty price tag, then this is probably the device for you.
The release date for the ZTE Anthem 4G hasn’t been set yet, but given that the starting price has been announced it will likely be in the near future. It’ll go for $219 after mail in rebates. That sounds a little expensive, but considering that MetroPCS plans are rather cheap, it’s understandable. If you’d like to check out the original press release, you can do so here.
Even with the limited specs, the device could be a hit at MetroPCS as their Android offerings are thin in comparison to the larger carriers. Is this a smart phone you can invest in? Let us know in the comments!
