Xtreamer Mobile to reinvent smartphone pricing
Xtreamer is a company you’ve probably never heard of, and that’s OK, because we had to Google them too. Apparently they’re a South Korean firm that makes digital media players for home theatre systems. So, say you have a huge collection of MKV files: instead of buying a PC and putting it next to your TV, instead you can go to Xtreamer’s website and buy one of their many products.
That’s enough background, here’s the news: the company is going to release a mobile phone called the “Xtreamer Mobile“. It’s going to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it’ll have a 5 inch screen, it has two SIM card slots, a “powerful battery”, it’ll get software updates from the ClockwordMod team, root access will be enabled out of the box, and, best of all, it’s supposed to be cheap.
When will it come out? We don’t know. How much is it going to cost? We don’t know. What system on a chip is inside this thing? You guessed it, we don’t know! So why are we even covering this thing? Because it looks like the Xtreamer Mobile is going to be one of the first phones tailored specifically to the Android hacker community. Sure, there’s the Nexus, but that comes out just once a year. And with Xtreamer supporting this thing, we’re expecting to see plenty of software updates rolling out that add features we’d probably never see on a “traditional” Android phone.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out on this story, especially if pricing information comes out. The Galaxy Nexus is arguably an affordable device at $350, so how low can Xtreamer go?
