Waze update lets it pull directions from your calendar appointments

At the end of last month Waze was searching for beta testers to test out some new functionality, and the latest update for Google’s expensive navigation software has dropped in just such a new feature.

After updating, Waze will now be able to talk to your Android calendar app, providing that you grant the app the required permission. Calendar events marked with specified locations can now be linked directly to Waze for one tap navigation when it’s time to go, just click on the destination from with your calendar. The navigation list within Waze will also auto-populate with destination information taken directly from your appointments, so you can just hop straight into Waze and be ready to go. It’s a pretty nifty feature if you have to travel about a lot.

Importantly for those concerned about privacy, this feature comes disabled by default. If you want to turn it on, or check that it’s off, the option can be found in the advanced tab in app’s settings menu.

With Waze now tying in with other Google applications, I wonder how much longer it will be until Waze’s own features are merged with the more widely used Google Maps app.
