T-Mobile LTE turns on in Kansas City
After a few delays, T-Mobile recently promised that it would be switching on its LTE network in Las Vegas and Kansas City very soon. Well, according to XDA Forum member RunsWithWood, T-Mobile’s 4G LTE service went online on the 26th January, and he’s been putting the network through its paces with some speed tests.
OK, so the Speedtest results are a little disappointing. Even though the 10Mbps download and 5Mbps upload speeds are just a tenth of the theoretical 100Mbps and 50Mbps maximum speeds achievable on an LTE network, it’s worth considering that T-Mobile could just be testing the network in selected locations with more limited speeds, before launching the full service officially.
Combine the rather lousy test speeds with the fact that there’s been no official word from T-Mobile, and we can safely assume that this isn’t the official roll out just yet. So don’t fret if you’re worried that this test will reflect the final achievable download speeds.
Even so, this is good news for T-Mobile LTE customers, as we can now expect an imminent official launch of the LTE network. So if you’re living in Kansas City, keep an eye on those download speeds in the coming days.
Hopefully T-Mobile will release an official statement sometime soon, so that the folks over in Kansas City and Las Vegas can start enjoying high speed internet on their phones.
