specs, price, availability and everything else you should know

On a busy announcement day from CES 2016 in Las Vegas, Samsung introduced more than one new computing device. Also making a quiet appearance is the Chrome OS-powered Chromebook 3.

Samsung has been a long time player in the Chromebook market, indeed, this is their third version of their simply named Chromebook line. With pricing and availability not yet released, we’re expecting an official release sometime in early 2016.

Considering the minimal fanfare of this announcement, it should come as little surprise that the Chromebook 3 includes just a minimum of new specs and features, starting with a familiar 11.6-inch display at a resolution of 1366×768. Although Samsung’s Exynos chipsets have been found in other Chromebook devices, this one will come with the Intel Celeron N3050, backed by 2GB or 4GB of RAM and the typical 16GB of internal storage.

As far as device size goes, we’re looking at a 2.53 lb device with a nearly 3/4-inch thickness. This is pretty normal specs for most Chromebooks out there, proving that Chromebooks are not dead, but are certainly lacking the flourish of design and flair that modern tablets, phones and laptops can have.

Stay tuned for more info when Samsung officially releases the Chromebook 3 in the near future. Also, stay tuned for more coverage from CES in Las Vegas: press day is now complete, the show floor opens in just a few hours.
