Slacker undergoes major design overhaul

“The new Slacker is here. The start of a new era. The blossoming of a beautiful new friendship.” The interactive Internet radio service Slacker has announced on its blog that it has undergone a complete redesign and now touts the best music experience with the most complete music service all around the world.

By complete, it means Slacker is capable of doing what its competition can perform such as music discovery, browsing artists, and more. Its mobile app and website replaces its old black and gold aesthetic and now sports a white and burnt orange combo theme. And as part of its reinventing itself and convincing Spotify and Pandora users to switch to its service, Slacker is even spending $5.5 million this year to boost its ad campaign.

The new version of Slacker is available not just on Android but also on iOS, Windows Phone, and Blackberry 10. Even with the redesign, the pricing model remains the same. There is a free version that is supported by ads, limits how often users can skip songs, and lacks offline station caching. The cheapest paid subscription costs $3.99 per month, gets rid of ads and the song skip limit, and allows downloading stations to mobile devices. The premium $9.99 per month subscription offers the best features such as playlist creation, playback of specific songs, and more.

Only time can tell if Slacker succeeds in overtaking Pandora and Spotify through its new redesign. After watching the videos below, tell us what you think.
