Samsung Galaxy S4 KitKat update rolling out OTA in Europe and Asia
Towards the end of last month, the much anticipated Android 4.4.2 KitKat update began rolling out to Galaxy S4 customers in the US, including Sprint, AT&T, and US cellular variants. Select regions have also received the update for the Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 version (Eyxnos CPU, no LTE model). Today, we can happily report that the KitKat update for the Samsung Galaxy S4 is now rolling out to users in Europe and Asia too.
Specifically, GS4 owners in Poland and Malaysia noted that the update arrived over the air earlier this morning, and we’ve also received a tip that the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update has arrived for the GT-I9505 handset in the Philippines as well. The update appears to come in at somewhere between 350 and 400MB, depending on your carrier.
For a quick recap, the move to Android 4.4 KitKat obviously gives access to the few changes made with the latest version of Android, such as Hangouts and SMS integration, as well as several others. There are also some Samsung specific changes, including S Health and SMS enhancements, and a few minor changes to other Samsung apps. Don’t forget the slight visual changeover to KitKat-style white status icons too.
If you haven’t received the update yet, you can always check manually by going to Settings> More> About Device> Software. Don’t worry if the update doesn’t appear right away, it can take a few days to rollout across the various regions.
