Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 rumored specifications

Remember when we (jokingly) called Huawei crazy for unveiling a beastly 6.1-inch phone called the Ascend Mate? Well, Samsung is about to get even crazier, as rumors of a 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega are intensifying.

If we are to believe Sam Mobile, the Mega 6.3 is to start selling in week 20 of 2013 (May 13-19), so a little while before the 5.8-incher that’s furiously making the rumor rounds as well. The online publication also has an alleged spec sheet of the jumbo-sized phone, but, in lack of an official confirmation, you should regard the following info as speculation.

That said, let’s see what we have here. Right off the bat, we have to stress the Mega 6.3 is not going to break any speed records and it’s unlikely to replace the GNote 2 as Sammy’s top “phablet”.

Still, this should step things up a notch compared with the Mega 5.8, as the whopping 6.3-inch display will at least boast an HD resolution (1,280 x 720 pixels). There will be an unknown dual-core CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz inside the monster (fingers crossed for Exynos 5250), 1.5 GB of RAM and a respectable 3,200 mAh battery.

An 8 MP shooter will be slapped on the back, a 2 MP cam on the front, while the connectivity options will include all the basics (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS), but also optional LTE. The Nature UX will be spicing up Jelly Bean’s butter, even though it’s unclear if the Mega 6.3 will come with Android 4.1 or 4.2.

Finally, design-wise, it sounds like Sammy has a winner on its hands. We don’t have any pics with the device, but the thing’s supposed to measure 7.9 mm in thickness, which is 1.5 mm thinner than the GNote 2. Pretty neat, eh?

We asked you yesterday and we’ll ask you again. Is there a market for bigger than 6-inch “handhelds”? And how should Samsung price the Mega 6.3 to make you interested in buying it?
