Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 tipped to arrive with ultra-thin glass

Now, serial tipster Ice Universe has claimed that this device, which they assert is the Galaxy Fold 2, will use ultra-thin glass for the display cover.

It can be confirmed that the Galaxy Fold2 leaked not long ago will use an ultra-thin glass cover for the first time in the world, replacing plastic materials. The screen looks flatter and has less wrinkles. In fact, this is the correct cover material for foldable phones. pic.twitter.com/BS73BCsA4N

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard rumors of Samsung’s next foldable using ultra-thin glass. Back in October, ET News reported that a clamshell foldable phone by Samsung will use the tech as well.

The biggest reason to look forward to a glass display cover on a foldable phone is the significantly higher level of scratch resistance compared to plastic. Right now, foldable phone screens are made out of plastic, which means you can expect more scratches on a foldable screen compared to a traditional smartphone.

But the tipster also notes that ultra-thin glass results in less wrinkles compared to the first wave of foldable phone displays. So you’re likely getting a more aesthetically pleasing experience as well if you buy this apparent Galaxy Fold 2.

ET News also reported at the time that ultra-thin glass was more fragile than plastic currently used on foldable phones. So that means a foldable phone screen equipped with this material is probably more likely to break if dropped compared to current plastic-equipped devices.
