Ring glass alarm sensor tells you about broken windows

TL;DR

  • There’s a new Ring glass alarm sensor available to pre-order.
  • The device is simple to install and works with your existing Ring security system.
  • It costs $39.99 for one or $69.99 for two. It ships on February 16, 2022.

Amazon’s Ring brand has some of the best smart home security systems available. What makes them so popular is how easy they are to set up and how they won’t break the bank.

Now, at CES 2022, the company announced a new peripheral for its core security system. The Ring glass alarm sensor listens for the sounds of glass breaking to then alert you that someone is likely trying to break into your home through a window.

The Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor, as it’s formally called, can hear sounds up to 25 feet away. It’s easy to install since it runs on three AA batteries (included). You can mount it on a wall near your windows or simply drop it on a table in a good area.

Ring says the sensor uses AI smarts to distinguish between real glass breaking and something else, such as the sound of a window breaking in a movie. Hopefully, this means you won’t have too many false positive alerts on your phone.

Unfortunately, the Ring glass sensor does not work on its own. It only works in tandem with an existing Ring Alarm or Ring Alarm Pro system. Still, this is an easy and cheap way to augment your system with a little more protection.
