Prox Pro: Controlling your Android phone without even touching it

Wouldn’t it be nice to control your phone by not touching it? The idea might sound farfetched, but there are already some mobile phone manufacturers jumping on that idea. Take for example the Sony Sola’s hover touch feature or Pantech’s gesture-based recognition handset that incorporates eyeSight technology.

In the past few years, smartphones have been evolving and they continue to evolve with every day. Many features are being implemented and, most especially, more sophisticated sensors are also being integrated into phones. From accelerometers to proximity sensors, these features are making our lives a whole lot easier.

But, don’t you know that you could also control your smartphone even without touching it? An interesting application known as Prox Pro for Android does wonders for your smartphone by letting you take control of its actions with the use of your Android phone’s proximity sensors.

All credits go to app developer SemperGumbee who has discovered neat new tricks to push the boundaries of our phone’s sensors.

The application is easy to use and configure, as it only requires you some administrative rights for it to function perfectly.

Users can launch applications, expand and contract their status bar, as well as silence their phones. All of this can be done without ever having base contact with your phone. The application perhaps got its inspiration from Sony Sola’s hover touch feature and, basically, it very much functions in the same way.

Prox Pro is pretty much useful in sticky situations when you need both of your hands to control your phone and navigate throughout the menus.  Imagine yourself with your hands all covered in batter, your phone suddenly rings, and you need to answer that important phone call. Others might have to wash their hands, but with Prox Pro, situations like that would never pose a threat.

Prox Pro also has several load outs that you can configure to do different sets of actions. The current version supports only a handful of actions, but rest assured the developer is promising new sets of features in the coming updates.

As of now these are some of the actions that you can do:

  • Expand and contract status bar
  • Emulate home button
  • Turn off screen
  • Toggle Ringer mode
  • Show some text (Toast)
  • Launch an application
  • Play a tone

Turning off certain functions on your phone just by waving or without touching it is pretty cool if you ask me. Prox Pro’s ace feature has to be the ability to turn off the screen. However, before you can do that, you’ll need to give the application administrative permission, which most users might not be comfortable with. Then again, users who are already accustomed to custom modification and hacks on their phones may find this feature perfectly safe to use without compromising security.

You can get the Prox Pro application for a small price of a dollar at the Google Play Store.
