Nokia 9.1 PureView now tipped to arrive in Q2 2020

The Nokia 9 PureView is HMD’s flagship release for 2019, but it was a rather disappointing device. Between last year’s flagship silicon, and a polarizing penta-camera setup, it could’ve been so much better.

HMD is apparently working on a follow-up, dubbed the Nokia 9.1 PureView, and it was previously claimed that this device is set to launch later this year. Now, the Nokia Anew Twitter account has claimed that the new flagship has been delayed to Q2 2020. The tweet came in response to a user query — check it out below.

For what it’s worth, the person behind the Twitter account also correctly claimed that the Nokia 9 PureView would be delayed from 2018 to 2019. So the source isn’t quite popping up out of nowhere.

What you need to know about Light, the company behind Nokia 9 PureView cameras

News

The Nokia 9 PureView launched with last year’s Snapdragon 845 silicon and a penta-lens rear camera layout. The setup featured three 12MP f/1.8 monochrome cameras and two 12MP f/1.8 RGB sensors. This combination, developed in conjunction with camera firm Light, allowed for better dynamic range and more granular depth-of-field adjustments. The downside is that you don’t have ultra-wide or telephoto cameras here unfortunately.

It’s claimed that Light is working on the Nokia 9.1 PureView, but hopefully we see a more flexible camera setup on the new phone. We’re also hoping HMD’s new phone comes with the latest flagship silicon if it is indeed coming next year.
