Music and movies coming to Google Play users in more countries

A mobile ecosystem is not just about apps and the mobile OS itself. Today, our smartphones and tablets are also entertainment devices, and we want to be able to read books, watch movies and listen to music. But side-loading these content, or accessing through third-party ecosystems is not always the most seamless means to access mobile entertainment. This is what has made Apple’s iOS ecosystem successful, so far, having popularized the per-track download of songs and movie purchases.

Google has made inroads into the content ecosystem through Google Play, offering not only apps, but also books, movies and music. While songs and movies have been available for download by American users for some time now, coverage throughout the rest of the world has been limited. We have good news, as Google has announced the availability of songs and movies to users in additional countries this month.

We earlier reported that Google was making movies available to users in Australia and Canada. Google has likewise announced that movies and music would soon come to additional countries, namely the United Kingdom, Germany, and  France. According to a post on the official Google+ page for Google TV, additional content for these countries will go live by November 13. Users from these regions will be able to purchase tracks and movies directly from Google Play.

On a similar note, users from this additional coverage would be able to enjoy the seasonal promotions offered by Google Play on its movies and music tracks, including $0.99 books and $3.99 music albums and movies.

What about other regions, then? If you live outside of countries where music and movies are available, don’t fret. We have shared instructions on how to access additional content outside of approved regions through the use of some VPN magic. This basically involves spoofing your smartphone or tablet’s location as coming from a U.S. provider. Root is required, of course, as this is a pre-requisite for DROIDvpn. As with other hacks, your mileage may vary, of course.

Anyone from Canada, Germany, Australia and the UK excited over having music and movies accessible straight from Google Play?
