Motorola Charm vs Huawei U8300
We usually see Android phones with typically big touchscreens and virtual keyboards. It is not typical for us to see Android phones with QWERTY keyboards. This makes the two Android phones we are comparing today unique. The Motorola Charm and the Huawei U8300 are two of the unique Android phones in the market today that sport a QWERTY keyboard.

Design
Both these smartphones are mainly made out of plastic, which creates an impression that they would easily break. With these two Android smartphones though, you can feel that both are very sturdy when you hold each one in your hand.
The keyboards on both phones are nicely designed. In actual use, though, it’s actually more comfortable to type on the Charm’s keyboard than that of the U8300.
Even with the QWERTY keyboard, both devices still have touchscreen displays. The touchscreens on both smartphones are equally responsive. With the Motorola charm, you get an additional input method which they call Backtrack. It is a little track pad found at the back of the unit which the user can use to navigate the screens of the device.
The Huawei U8300 comes in several different colors like yellow, green, and violet–which make it more appealing to the younger users. The Motorola Charm, on the other hand, has a predominantly gray color, which gives it strong appeal to those wanting to own a business phone like the Blackberry.
Processing Speed
These Android phones are targeted to be cheap, so you can’t expect dual-core processors on these devices. The Motorola Charm is built with a TI OMAP 3410 600 MHz processor, which is decent enough. Huawei did not really indicate the processor specs of the U8300. Both smartphones decently handled all apps tested on them.
Storage Capacity
Just like the processor specs, Huawei did not really place any details about the capacity of the internal memory of the U8300. It might be a bit small anyways, something not worth mentioning. Though, the U8300 has a microSD card slot that can accommodate up to 16 GB, so that’s the way to do it. The Motorola Charm has 512 MB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32 GB via the microSD card slot.
Display
The screen sizes of both smartphones are a bit limited. The Huawei U8300 sports a 2.6-inch screen while the Motorola Charm has a 2.8-inch display. Since the display screen is a bit limited, it is normal to see the screens on these devices appear somewhat more cluttered than those on typical Android devices.
Camera
The Charm and the U8300 each has a 3 MP digital camera at the back. Pictures captured from both devices are decent. There’s really no difference when it comes to the picture quality on the two smartphones. If you’re looking for good quality pictures, though, these devices are not the way to go.
Software
Both smartphones are built with Android 2.1 Éclair, which is a bit obsolete but good enough for entry-level phones. Typical social networking apps work with both devices so you can still be connected with no issues.
Connectivity
Both devices are built with Wi-Fi radios. Web browsing experience on the two devices is good and the speed is fast. The Charm and the U8300 also have Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, which means you can connect your Bluetooth headset to these devices.
Battery Life
The battery capacity of the Motorola Charm is an advantage since it’s got a 1,700-mAh battery. The Huawei U8300’s battery rating is only 930 mAh.
Conclusion
If you are on a tight budget and would like to get an Android phone, the Motorola Charm and the Huawei U8300 are good options. We are looking at a $60 to $90 price range, which is really cheap.
The Backtrack feature of the Charm might be an advantage, but if you already have a touch screen and a QWERTY keyboard, these latter two are usually enough. The Motorola Charm also has an advantage when it comes to the battery. The lack of internal storage on the U8300 would also add to the advantage of the Charm. And, to add to that, the keyboard on the Charm is more comfortable than the U8300 keyboard.
