Lenovo makes the 5.3-inch S920 phone official, available soon for $350
Well, that was quick. It was only a couple of weeks ago that we first heard about the Lenovo S920, courtesy of unofficial sources, and now the 5.3-incher is official. And due out very soon in China.
The phone’s leakers proved spot-on with all their revealed specs and features, meaning the S920 has only two real selling points. There’s all that screen real estate, if you’re one of those folks that thinks bigger is automatically better, and on-board Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
But is that really enough to make the fellow stand out from the huge competitive crowd of supersized budget phones in China? Probably not. After all, what’s a 5.3-inch display good for if it only boasts a 1,280 x 720 pixels resolution?
Beneath the hood, there’s a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and 1 GB of RAM. Which essentially means the Lenovo S920 can perform more or less on-par with flagship devices… from a year and a half ago.
You can’t be too excited about the 2,250 mAh battery either, even if it’ll probably get the job done. You know, given it doesn’t have to withstand a lot of pressure from a medium-res screen and a mid-tier CPU.
Okay, maybe you can add the 8 MP/2 MP dual cameras to the list of selling points. Not that they’re extraordinary, but they’re slightly above average. Also, the design is fairly nice and it’s like the HTC Butterfly “homage” is not so obvious anymore.
We love the ultra-slim profile (just 7.9 mm thin), and, unlike the leaked orange version, the white model on Lenovo’s website is not tacky, but still stylish.
There are a few blanks in S920’s spec sheet that we’re unable to fill in at this time (like the on-board storage), but all in all we can’t say we’re too impressed with the big guy. It’s not incredibly cheap either, being set to go on sale on April 8 for CNY 2,199, or around $350. Next!
