Huawei P20 Pro camera is better than any other phone ever

TL;DR

  • DxOMark posted its camera test results for the new Huawei P20 and P20 Plus, and both phones now top its overall list.
  • The Huawei P20 Pro scored a total 109 rating, the highest ever for a mobile phone on the site.
  • The phones also did extremely well for video quality, with the P20 Plus receiving a record 98 score.

The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro became official today at Huawei’s event in Paris. As expected, the Huawei P20 Plus features not one, not two, but three camera lenses, which the company claims will enable users to take professional-quality photos with ease. To back up this claim, image quality reference site DxOMark just gave the Huawei P20 Plus the highest total score the site has ever dished out for camera quality – a whopping 109 rating.

The Best

If you never thought a Chinese company could beat out the likes of Samsung, Google, and Apple when it comes to image quality, now’s the time to eat your words.

However, you should keep in mind that the scores at DxOMark are by no means unbiased. The company has a few conflicts of interest when it comes to its testing system, most notably that companies can pay DxOMark to analyze their camera systems and suggest alterations to give them a higher score, which in a roundabout way results in a pay-to-win scenario.

That being said, the DxOMark rundown of just how good the Huawei P20 Plus camera is shouldn’t be ignored. All the Huawei images in the article are not only technically better than the Google Pixel 2 and the Apple iPhone X (which DxOMark goes into great detail to explain), but just from glancing at the photos it’s easy to judge in favor of Huawei subjectively.

Let’s not forget video; the Huawei P20 Plus also scores the highest rating ever for its video quality when it comes to mobile phones, with a score of 98. For perspective, the Google Pixel 2 got a score of 96 for video, the Huawei P20 received a 94, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus received a 91, and the Apple iPhone X rounds out the top five with a score of 89.
