HTC's software update roadmap leaked on the Internet

HTC’s Android rollout roadmap has been leaked on the Internet. The roadmap shows that HTC is continuing to make point releases for some devices and that it is evaluating Android L for several of its handsets.

The Google Play Editions of the HTC One (M7 and M8) already have access to Android 4.4.4 and according to the leaked plans HTC will be rolling out Android 4.4.4 with Sense 6.0 for the HTC One sometime in July or August. HTC are actually already testing 4.4.3 with Sense 6 on both devices, however the quick release of 4.4.4 following the release of 4.4.3 means that HTC may jump over 4.4.3 and go straight to the latest version of KitKat. Other HTC devices which will get Android 4.4.4 with Sense 6.0 are the HTC One (M8) dual-sim version, the HTC One Mini 2, and the HTC One (E8). The E8, codenamed M8 Ace, is the plastic variant of the HTC One (M8) with a 13MP camera.

Most of HTC’s other currently supported device will likely remain on Android 4.4.2 with Sense 6.0. These include the HTC One (M7) dual-sim version, the HTC One Max (T6),  the HTC Butterfly S, the HTC Desire 816, and the HTC Desire 610. The HTC One Mini (M4) should receive an update  for Sense 6.0, from Sense 5.5, some time in the next month.

As you would expect, there are plans to bring Android L to HTC’s devices and the first handsets to get the update will likely be the Google Play Edition of the HTC One. The leaked roadmap suggests that HTC will be evaluating Android L for multiple devices including the Butterfly S, the Desire 816,  and the Desire 610. There is no final word yet on which devices will actually support Android L. However HTC has previously announced that it will update all of its HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) smartphones to Android L within 90 days of receiving final software from Google.

HTC’s “advantage pledge” means that it will provide software updates for all of its devices for up to two years after their launch date, and it looks like it is keeping to that pledge.
