Got room for more dessert? Android Pie OTA hits OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T

OnePlus has had a phenomenal 2018, delivering the fantastic OnePlus 6, landing a deal with T-Mobile, and launching the slick OnePlus 6T (albeit without a headphone jack).

The company isn’t finished for the year though, as it’s announced late yesterday that OxygenOS 9.0.0 and Android Pie are officially rolling out to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.

The update brings a new UI, new navigation gestures (on the OnePlus 5T only), gaming mode 3.0, a new Do Not Disturb mode, integrated Google Lens in the camera app, and the December 2018 security patches. The company adds that there are also “other new features and improvements” in the update.

“Our software team worked overtime, staying up late tonight, they just wanted to send this Christmas gift to our community, so do let them know if you like it,” a OnePlus employee wrote in the forum thread announcing the OTA.

“The OTA will reach a small percentage of users today, and we’ll begin a broader rollout in a few days,” said another OnePlus employee. So don’t panic if the update isn’t immediately available for you.

OnePlus has previously confirmed that the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will be receiving Android Pie, but the company hasn’t issued a timeline for these devices just yet. Nevertheless, we’re glad to see the company bring the update to its 2017 phones before 2018 is over.
