Google Nexus 7 release date and pricing
The Google Nexus 7 Android tablet is finally official, as Google has just announced it at this year’s Google I/O developer conference, just as we expected. The device is indeed made by Asus, and while it’s not necessarily an iPad rival, it will certainly be a fierce competitor for the Amazon Kindle Fire.
The tablet features a 7-inch touchscreen IPS display with 1280 x 800 HD display and scratch-resistant Corning glass, a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, GeForce 12-core GPU, 1GB of RAM, 8/16GB of memory, 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera, NFC support, 9-hour battery life and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
In addition to running the latest Android version, The Nexus 7 will also come with the Google Chrome browser on board and it will offer Google Maps offline capabilities.
One other major selling point for the Nexus 7 is Google Play integration, as it looks like Google wants to push plenty of content to Nexus 7 buyers from its digital stores.
Pricing for the tablet starts at $199 for the 8GB version and at $249 for the 16GB model. Moreover, buyers will also get a $25 Google Play card that can be used to purchase additional content from the store. A specific Galaxy Nexus 7 release date has not been mentioned, but the tablet will ship in mid-July in the U.S., Canada and Australia, with pre-orders being available today.
