Google I/O registration opens at 4PM PST, but there's no need to rush

As promised, Google  will open the registration process for its I/O developer conference today at 4PM PST, but unlike past years, this time there’s no need to rush to reserve a ticket.

Google has changed the registration process in order to avoid the virtual stampedes from the past years, when technical glitches and the sheer number of users trying to secure a ticket caused widespread frustration. This year, Google is assigning tickets through a random draw, giving all would-be attendees that registered through April 18 equal chances at buying a ticket.

After the registration period closes, Google will hold the draw and notify the winners via email. You will need to authorize the $900 payment (via Google Wallet) when you register, though your account will only be debited if you won a ticket. You have until June 1 to request a refund in case you change your mind.
