Google Calendar update lets you to reply to event invites from Gmail

Over the weekend Google updated its Calendar app to version 201308023, listing the only change as “bug fixes and performance improvements”. While most of the update’s changes do seem to be pretty small, there at least one useful change that has arrived with the app that for whatever reason was not highlighted by Google in the change-log: the ability to reply to Calendar events from Gmail.

In the past, the only way to respond to event invites was to be pushed over to the Calendar app. Once you responded, you’d then have to go back to the Gmail app to keep reading. With the latest change, you are now presented “yes”, “no” and “maybe” options directly through the Gmail notification email with no need to switch back and forth between apps.

This might not seem like a major deal, but it’s considerably more convenient. If you’re wondering whether or not a Gmail update is also needed for this to work, the answer is no. Apparently the Calendar app handles this process without any changes needed to the Gmail app.

Although the Google Calendar app continues Google’s tradition of rolling out in stages, the update appears to have already arrived to Google Play for most Android users. For those that have already downloaded the update, have you noticed any other changes besides the new calendar invites system?
