Best Free Arcade Games for Android

The Android Market is a big place these days. With so many apps to choose from, we all become daunted and drowned in the sheer number of them all. Well, fear not friends, for we’ve take the time so you don’t have to. Below you will find some of the best arcade games for Android that are available right now. Beware though, dear Android fan – as these games are designed to suck every single second of your free time away. Things like laundry, girls, sleep and work will all be relegated to the sidelines. To further compound future complications remember: your Android device of choice usually goes with you – so you could potentially get fixed into hour after of gameplay while on the move. Just don’t try these while operating a vehicle, ok? Without further adieu, here’s some of the best life-sucking arcade games for Android currently available.

Robo Defense FREE

Oh my god. Seriously, if you have a life – I would avoid this game at all costs. I am absolutely hooked! It seems easy to start, but once you get hang of it, well, it can become very challenging actually. One of the best tower-based defense games around, it will pull you in and delight you – this I have no doubt. It’s been around the block, and has constantly improved. If you like it, we highly recommend paying for it, as you get access to tons of cool new upgrades and other goodies that will keep you hooked for longer than before. Highly recommended.

Fruit Ninja is another great time waster, and is actually quite satisfying to play. Complete with squishy, splatty and satisfying fruit carnage, it is great fun.

You can swipe across the screen with you finger, and there’s three games modes in single player to choose from.

Highly recommended for blowing steam in the elevator on the way home.

Another highly addicting game, Dante will pull you in with it’s puzzle solving ways. It’s a very nice game, and is quite well designed. While some criticize the sequence of levels, it has decent music, dialogue, and hours of potential gameplay – all at your fingertips. It will probably remind you of Legend of Zelda for the original Nintendo – so if you were a fan of that – we recommend you give htis a try.Sure, we know – it doesn’t look like much – but don’t be so quick to judge a, er, app, by its screenshots! While it might be one of the plainest looking games on the Android market, it still has the right components working together to make it fun for a few minutes here and there. Simply put, it’s addictive, it’s fun, and it’s easy to play. It’s a perfect quick play whenever you have to wait for a few minutes. Basically, you tilt your device left and right, guiding the bouncy smiley face higher and higher. And trust me guys, he really wants to get high. Simple. Addictive. Get now.

Yep, recently, as you might or might not be aware – Google and/or the legal representatives of Nintendo and other major gaming manufacturers, took steps to remove popular emulators on the Android Market. Peering around the market, it appears that this is the case. Thankfully, all it takes is a quick Google search for the respective apps name, plus apk for the Android extension, and you can usually find the emulator of choice. Beware though, dear Android user, for you can be sure that some savvy hackers are hoping for you to download their (potentially) version embedded with some nasty malware. Either way, SNES9X is on the Android Market currently, and has been downloaded by thousands. For anyone that has fond memories of playing Street Fighter II, or any of the SNES classics, give it a go – you won’t be disappointed.  Plus, the developer behind this gem is awesome – they’ve included multiplayer support via Wii-motes, and you can save your progress (or lack thereof). For a number of public domain games and demos check out www.pdroms.de, but there’s tons of sites out there where you can find the ROM files necessary to turn you Droid into a truly awesome, time wasting machine.

We all fantasize about flooring it at red lights, but some times, it’s not the smartest thing to do. Trust me – it’s expensive. Anyway, there’s a great game that’s free for Android, and it’s a ton of fun to play. It’s all about the timing people: when to use the nitrous, when to shift gears, and how much juice give the accelerator. Drag Racing is just that – Drag Racing. You get to test drive cars before buying them, and can play against either real actual people, or robots. It’s a game that looks simple on the outside, but can pull you in rather quickly, through upgrades, the ability to buy new cars, and through fine tuning you automobile of choice.  Give it a try – it’s free and there’s tons of stuff to do!

Any we missed? Any thoughts? What kind of game is the best for an Android device? Strategy, tower defence, or arcade style?
