AT&T's Samsung Galaxy Express to go on sale on November 16 for $100
It’s not unusual for Samsung to be covering all its bases with a smartphone line-up as wide and diverse as possible, but the past few months have brought such an abundance of new devices that it’s hard to keep track and distinguish all the models.
That box is officially checked now too, as AT&T has announced the Galaxy Express will go on sale starting November 16. The 4.5-incher will cost $100 on contract, which is affordable we guess, although looking at the specs of this bad boy, it seems a bit steep.
The Express is not too far off the GS3 in terms of design, but the hardware is considerably downgraded. The 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display only comes with an 800 x 480 pixels resolution and 207 ppi pixel density, the on board OS is Android 4.0 ICS, while the rear-facing shooter is equipped with a run of the mill 5 MP sensor.
At the heart of the hardware there’s a rather promising 1.5 GHz dual-core CPU, but we don’t know the maker and model yet, and that’s never a good sign. Sammy and AT&T are also keeping the phone’s RAM and on-board storage secret, though we know there’ll be a microSD card slot. We also know that the battery will be a 2,000 mAh unit, which is not too bad, considering that the S3 only adds 100 mAh on top of that.
All in all, while we wouldn’t exactly call the Galaxy Express an entry-level phone, it’s definitely not a high-ender either, and with Black Friday’s super deals looming, we don’t see why anyone would pay 100 bucks for this.
On a somewhat unrelated note, let’s mention that AT&T will be also launching Novatel’s MiFi Liberate (pictured above) on November 16. The “first mobile hotspot device with a touchscreen display” will cost $50 and sport a “vibrant” 2.8-inch screen offering access to 4G LTE speeds while boasting an 11-hour battery.
