ASUS Chromebox available for pre-order, shipping March 14

Back at the beginning of February, ASUS officially announced its new Chromebox line-up, which has now appeared for pre-order on a number of US websites, with a retail price of just $179.

Amazon, Newegg, and TigerDirect all have the same ASUS Chromebox (M004U) available for pre-order, with a release date listed at March 14th.

For a quick recap, the ASUS Chromebox model in question features a dual-core Intel Celeron 2955U processor, clock at a modest 1.4GHz. This should help to keep the device cool, although none of the boxes appear to be fan-less as previously suggested. The cheapest box also comes with 2GB of memory, 16GB of internal storage courtesy of a Sold State hard drive, 100GB of Google Drive space, dual-band 802.11n WiF, Bluetooth 4.0, 10/100/1000 Ethernet, display ports, SD card slot, and USB 3.0 ports. Not to mention that it comes pre-loaded with Chrome OS.

Remember that there are other Intel powered variants of the ASUS Chromebox too. However, the company has no plans to offer pre-orders for the Core i3 version, which will also go on sale on the 14th of March, and the Core i7 option won’t be released in North America.

Considering the price, ASUS’ Chromebox looks like a promising product for those interested in a cheap PC or something pop under their TV. Are any of you interested in picking up one of these?
