China plans to fight back if India blocks Huawei

According to Reuters, China will play hardball with India if the latter ultimately blocks Huawei. The issue reportedly came about due to India’s upcoming 5G trials. The country has not yet decided whether to invite Huawei to take part in the trials. Vikram Misri, India’s ambassador to China, was then reportedly called to the Chinese foreign ministry in response to India’s lack of a decision. In a statement sent to Reuters, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said the country hopes India will make an independent decision on its 5G trials:

Galaxy S8's Bixby assistant to be based on S-Voice, not Viv Labs tech

Samsung Bixby, the digital assistant said to be arriving with the Galaxy S8 flagship phone, will be based on S Voice, reports The Wall Street Journal. The Bixby software was previously speculated to be built by Viv Labs, an AI specialist Samsung purchased last year. Samsung mobile division chief technology officer Injong Rhee revealed in November that the S8’s AI would house functionality delivered by Viv Labs and that this would “significantly” differentiate it from competitors.

Gallery Go is an AI-backed, offline photo app designed by Google

Google has announced a new gallery app designed for offline use called Gallery Go. In a blog post published earlier today, Google said the app would help “first time smartphone owners” manage their photo libraries and edit images.  It’s a titchy app, coming in at just 10MB, and it doesn’t rely on cloud backup services like the regular Google Photos app (it’s basically a lightweight version of that). Instead, the app is designed for emerging markets where copious amounts of device storage and internet access aren’t always available.

Google acquires Polar polling startup, part of an effort to improve Google+

Google+ may not compete on the same level as Facebook when it comes to mainstream popularity (which many of us G+ users prefer that way…), but the company continues to work towards improving the service, even if rumors earlier this year suggested Google wasphasing back its plans for the social network. The latest effort to make Google+ even better apparently involves the purchase of Polar, a startup that focuses on polling mobile device users for their opinions.
