Most of you still have local music files on your phones

They all operate on the same principle, letting you pay a monthly subscription fee or offering free access to millions of music tracks. This theoretically means that you don’t need to store local music files on your smartphone, save for music downloaded from these streaming services for offline playback. We were curious to find out just how many people had traditional music files on their phones, and here’s what you told us.

New details on Call of Duty: Mobile emerge

Update, May 21, 2019 (5:16PM EST): Activision confirmed today that Call of Duty: Mobile features a Battle Royale mode. The mode lets up to 100 players play on a map that features settings from previous Call of Duty titles. Single, two-person, and four-person playlists are currently being play-tested, though we don’t know if all three playlists will be available from day one. Before you start a Battle Royale match, you can pick certain loadout elements — these can include weapon camos, item skins, and more — and class.

Pre-installed Android apps will soon update even without a Google account

Google is notifying certain app developers about an upcoming change to the way the Google Play Store distributes app updates (via Android Police). In the future, it seems pre-installed apps will have access to updates even if you haven’t signed in with a Google account. When you first set up a new Android device, the pre-installed apps will be at the most recent version they were on when installed. To get the newest versions, you’ll have to sign in to the Google Play Store with a Google account.

Raspberry Pi Zero is a tiny computer that costs just $5

Pi Zero is the latest product from this British company, and despite its diminutive size, it can do quite a bit of heavy lifting. The $5 computer is actually faster than the original Raspberry Pi, which cost $25. Apart from being the most inexpensive computer out there, the Pi Zero is also the company’s most compact computer ever, at exactly half the size of the Model A+. Red Alert Online revives the franchise on mobile devices in China

Mobile gaming giant Tencent has just announced a deal with Electronic Arts and Aiyou Interactive Entertainment to release Red Alert Online, a new game from the classic Command & Conquer series. It will be the first new game in the franchise in nearly six years. There are copycat titles available, but Red Alert Online will be the first officially licensed Command & Conquer game on Android. A previous Red Alert title was made back in 2009 for iOS, but it never made its way into the Android ecosystem.

Snapchat can now suggest a filter when it identifies an object

Snapchat is making it a little bit easier to find filters. The app is now using a new object recognition system to identify what’s in a picture and serve users relevant filters. The feature works by projecting a virtual screen from your Pixel phone to your PC. Google is already working on a way to mirror Android chat apps to Chromebooks. The feature will allow users to access any chat app from their phones on their Chromebooks without the need to install it again.
