Xiaomi is one name that repeatedly pops up when talking about budget phones, having a reputation as a leading value for money player. But you’d be forgiven for shrugging at the newly announced Redmi S2. After all, the company already has the Redmi 5/Note 5 family, the Redmi 5A, the Mi 6X, and Mi A1 in its extensive stable of affordable, yet handy phones. So what’s one more budget phone, right?

Update: May 24, 2019 at 4:25 p.m. ET: We’ve been back and forth with OnePlus about this camera topic today and it seems that a bit of a grey area in terms is getting in the way of understanding what’s really going on. OnePlus is adamant that there’s no dishonesty on its part and that the 3x zoom provides full lossless quality. The quality part is true — there’s no digital zoom or quality degradation going on.

Peter Chou cofounded HTC in 1997. He took the helm of the company in 2004. He turned it into the rising star of the nascent smartphone industry. And he oversaw its slow death after 2011. Now he is officially out at HTC. Following a rumor that surfaced yesterday in Chinese-language media, HTC officially confirmed that Peter Chou has left all positions at the company last year. Chou stepped down as CEO in March 2015, ceding the role to HTC chairwoman – and cofounder – Cher Wang.
