An iPhone with USB-C could land in 2023 (Updated)

It’s possible some iPhones could be portless at the same time. Update, May 13, 2022 (04:06 PM ET): Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is already testing USB-C iPhones for a possible release in 2023. The company is likely making the change to comply with upcoming EU legislation that will require all manufacturers to adopt USB-C.

Android 11's airplane mode will no longer kill your Bluetooth connection

You know the drill. You’re on an airplane listening to some tunes on your favorite Bluetooth headphones to kill the time. The flight attendant comes on the horn to say the cabin door has been closed and you have to switch your devices to airplane mode. As a good passenger, you comply with the order and bzzttt! you lose your Bluetooth connection. So aggravating. Normally, you need to dive into the settings menu and re-enable the Bluetooth radio and hope your headphones auto-connect.

Google Nest Hub Max is getting the a new 'Look and Talk' feature today

Update: May 11, 2022 (1:41 PM ET): Google has confirmed the previously rumored Look and Talk feature. It’ll start rolling out to the Nest Hub Max starting today. You can simply look directly at your device and ask for what you need. Once activated, the feature is designed to activate when both face match and voice match recognize it’s you. Original article: April 13, 2022 (2 PM ET):  Google’s Nest Hub may be getting a new feature that will make interactions more seamless, using visual contact to activate Assistant instead of the traditional hotword.

Google takes even more control over OS updates with Android 12

This is good news for timely bug and security fixes without the long waits associated with full OS updates. Despite arriving faster than in previous years, timely Android updates are still a bugbear of Google’s mobile ecosystem. Google started down the road to solving this problem with 2017’s Project Treble, this was then extended to enable component updates via Google Play with Project Mainline.

Martian Watches calls it quits, future unknown

TL;DR Martian Watches announced it ceased operations and closed the company. The smartwatch maker was unable to gather enough funds to complete production of its mVoice G2. Martian was founded in 2007 and was notable for sticking a small display in analog watchfaces. U.S.-based smartwatch maker Martian told Kickstarter backers that the company will cease operations after it failed to raise enough money, reported Android Police. According to the message sent to backers, Martian was able to raise over $276,766 after deductions for certain fees toward its mVoice G2 smartwatch.

New Sony Xperia Compact leaked, but will this small phone hit it big?

TL;DR A new report claims the Sony Xperia Compact phone line will be revived. The report also shows off alleged renders of the 5.5-inch smartphone. There’s no word on when this smaller smartphone will be released. It looks like Sony may be about to reboot its smaller lineup of Xperia smartphones. Noted gadget leaker OnLeaks reported that the company is working on a new entry in the Sony Xperia Compact phone series.

Nexus Q specs, price, and availability

One of Google’s biggest announcements in the first day of the I/O event was the Nexus Q media player device, meant as more of a competitor to the Sonos media player than to a set top box like Apple TV. Google wanted to show the capabilities of NFC and Android Beam streaming through this device, and built it to be the first “social media player”, which basically means  that you can have your friends play their own media (music or videos) from their own devices, on your Nexus Q device and TV.

True black Twitter dark mode finally comes to Android devices

Update, October 22, 2019 (3:10 PM ET): After months of waiting, Twitter’s true-black dark mode is finally rolling out to Android devices. According to the official Twitter account, “Lights Out” is available starting today. The true-black dark mode arrives via Twitter for Android version 8.18.0. Once it lands on your device, you can enable it by navigating to Settings and privacy > Display and sound > Dark mode. Here, you can choose between the traditional dim mode or the new Lights Out mode.
