I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but I’m actually genuinely excited for Mobile World Congress 2019 — I think you should be too.
It’s no secret, despite increasing attendance numbers, the biggest event in the mobile industry calendar has become a shell of its former self, at least in terms of marquee, industry-shaping announcements and product reveals.
In place of flashy new product lines and OEMs competing tooth and nail for the limelight, we’ve instead sat through the tiresome bezel wars, been mildly distracted by nostalgia-baiting retro phones you don’t actually need, and suffered through bloated reveals of vaguely dissimilar glass/metal slabs, each with a handful of incremental upgrades and a new number or letter slapped on the end accompanied by meaningless promises that “the future of mobile is finally here — for real this time folks, we swear.

Today, Google is rolling out Android 12 DP 3, the final (planned) preview before the first official beta. The latest preview has a slew of new features, including precise haptic feedback control, app launch templates, and deeper web linking. You can get this preview on your recent Pixel device now. However, it is still not quite ready to be used as a daily driver.
Television – you either love it or hate it. Or love-hate it? Anyway, we all have a deep, if sometimes ambivalent relationship with our TV sets. We use TV to relax, to get informed, to stay in touch, to learn things, to lose time, to forget about problems, and the list can go on and on. It’s no wonder that many have tried (and mostly failed) to offer a truly portable TV-watching device.
Google recently changed its Play Store policies that will effectively kill call recording apps starting May 11. These apps have been using Google’s Accessibility API to record calls since the company banned other ways of doing so with Android 10. Now, Google is taking away the ability to use the API for call recording purposes.
So what does this mean? Third-party call recording apps will not be able to function once Google implements and starts enforcing the policy change.
Once again we kick off the new year with one of the biggest tech events on the planet, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES)! For those that have never been, let’s just say that massive doesn’t even begin to describe CES, which is sprawled out across 2.4 million square feet, with more than 3,500 exhibitors and over 170,000 attendees.
It’s been an exciting show so far, and we’ve had plenty of opportunity to check out a lot of cool products.
If you’ve ever doubted the benefits of having an unlocked bootloader, now it’s the time to reconsider that position. The CyanogenMod team has officially released the latest version of CyanogenMod 9 (CM9) for most U.S. Galaxy S3 versions available in stores, with the sole exception (U.S. Cellular and C Spire have not shipped their Galaxy S3 yet) of the Verizon model, which as we’ve learned a couple of days ago, has a locked bootloader.
Google One handles the standard Android backup, which includes your app data, call history, contacts, settings, and SMS messages. Google One also keeps backups of original photos, videos, and multimedia messages (MMS).
RCS messages generally won’t be backed up, though that depends on your phone, carrier, and messaging app. Google specifically mentions T-Mobile and Metro, which don’t universally support RCS messages. As a result, you can back up RCS messages from the aforementioned carriers using Google One.
I love a good pair of Bluetooth earbuds. Since they’re wireless, they’re extremely convenient to wear while working out or laying in bed, and I don’t miss the drop in sound quality compared to wired earbuds. Sure, I have to remember to recharge them from time to time, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay for convenience.
One of the best pairs of Bluetooth earbuds I’ve ever owned is the Jaybird X3.

A new leak has apparently revealed the core specs of Honor’s first foldable phone. The Honor Magic V could pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, a 50MP primary camera, and a 120Hz foldable screen. The company has yet to announce the device’s official launch date. Honor confirmed it’s bringing a foldable phone to market in the coming weeks. While we’ve seen teaser images of the Honor Magic V, we’ve yet to get an idea of its specifications.
The HTC Sensation is a multimedia smartphone that’s undeniably one of the hottest Android devices out there. For some enthusiasts and ‘superusers,’ the HTC Sensation isn’t that “sensational” until they have rooted it.
Now, if you want to become a ‘superuser,’ follow this quick and easy guide to permanently root your HTC Sensation.
