It’s finally December, and that means the latest annual list of Google Play’s best apps and games is now live. Unsurprisingly, this year’s roundup is dominated by wellness apps.
This means the top app in 2019 – Appy Weather – makes way for a sleep readiness app, Loóna. The app was also named a Hidden Gem by Google this year, letting users “quickly disconnect from a long stressful day and get in the right mood for sleep,” according to its description.
Ah, Reddit. The source of all things… innovative. If you’re tired of the same old boot animation on your device, you’re in luck. Someone created a website that can turn any .gif file into your device’s boot animation.
The website comes from Reddit user eth0izzle, and is currently only an alpha version, meaning you might run into some errors if you upload strangely-formatted .gifs. If you dare to try it out, just head to this website.
There is little doubt that one of the best and easiest ways to install apps on your Android devices is through the Google Play Store on your PC. Simply hit the Install or Purchase button and the next time you pick up your phone or tablet, like magic, the app is downloading and installing itself on your device. But what do you do if you download an app to your PC directly from a different source?
Over the weekend, users on Reddit and Google’s support forums noted that Assistant reminders on Android had stopped working. While the feature is still working on other devices such as Home Hubs, those who rely on their smartphone for everything are missing essential reminders.
Typically, after asking the Assistant to remind you about something at a given time and date, you would receive a notification alerting you to whatever was set. With this current bug, nothing ends up popping up or the reminder only shows up when the user goes looking for it.
A video telling the design story of the Galaxy S4 has been posted on Samsung Tomorrow’s YouTube channel, revealing some of the design principles behind the company’s flagship device.
Just like with the Galaxy S3 about a year ago, Samsung decided to release a Galaxy S4 design video, but this time around it posted it a lot closer to the handset’s launch. In it, you’ll hear Samsung designers talking about Galaxy S4 design lines, but also about some of the new software features part of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface.
Malaria, filariasis, yellow fever, dengue fever, Rift Valley fever, Ross River Fever, epidemic polyarthritis, various types of encephalitis, West Nile virus (WNV). These are just some of the diseases borne by mosquitoes, and they could be fatal. Malaria, for instance, claims 2,000,000 lives yearly, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
What has this got to do with your Android device? Quite a lot. First of all, your Android is immune to all those diseases, so no worries.
One of the most impressive Google Pixel 4 features has to be the astrophotography mode, allowing users to accurately capture pictures of the stars. Google has previously touched on how it works, but the company has now published a full explanation on its AI blog, and it makes for some interesting reading.
First of all, the company notes that the Pixel 4 astrophotography mode allows for exposures of up to four minutes.

The channel for YouTube TV on Roku devices is no longer available, unless you’ve already installed it. However, Google snuck a link to YouTube TV within the regular YouTube channel, which is still available on Rokus. This is a nice workaround for YTTV subscribers who aren’t happy about being caught in the middle of Google and Roku’s squabbling. Last week, we heard word of an intense squabble between Google and Roku.

How’s the 5G where you live? Is it fast? Is it slow? Is it even available? For many consumers, 5G simply hasn’t lived up to the sky-high expectations set by technology purveyors the world over. We’ve been promised low latency and high speeds everywhere we go and that’s just not the reality of today’s 5G networks. Carriers are nonetheless toiling to cover the globe with 5G and have definitely made progress since earlier this year.
Huawei took the wraps off the Huawei P10 and P10 Plus back in February with the Honor 8 Pro launching in Europe a few days ago. Looking at their specs sheets, which you can see in full at the bottom of this article, there are a lot of similarities: the Kirin 960 processor, dual cameras, a metal body, 8 MP selfie snapper, expandable storage, Android Nougat with EMUI 5.1 and so on.
