The latest and greatest smartphones have been announced this week, amongst we can find the New Moto X and New Moto G. It’s hard to decide between these and the multitude of awesome devices out there, so Motorola is making easier to decide by offering a very neat trade-in program.
Trading in your device after purchasing a Moto X or Moto G may get you a Motorola Visa Prepaid Card of up to $300.
Performance and camera optics are the name of the game here, so let’s stack this new phone up against its rivals — the Pocophone F1, Honor Play, Moto Z3 Play, and the Asus Zenfone 5Z.
Kings of performance Historically, performance has required compromise for lower-cost handsets, but things have changed in the last couple of years. The Pocophone F1 is the most affordable smartphone ever to pack in a flagship-tier Snapdragon 845 processor, which powers the $1000 big players.
Update, January 31: It looks like Pixel owners who have been tormented by unexpected shutdowns could finally catch a break. The Google bug-tracking ticket where hundreds of users complained about sudden shutdowns on their Pixels and Pixel XL’s has been closed today by a Google staffer. The ticket is now marked as “Future Release” meaning that changes designed to fix the shutdown issue will roll out in an upcoming update. It’s not clear whether that future release is Android 7.

Google’s Pixel 5 has a nifty reverse wireless charging feature — automatic Battery Share. The reverse wireless charging feature automatically switches on when the phone is plugged in via USB-C. This means users don’t need to manually switch on reverse wireless charging to top up peripherals or other phones. The Google Pixel 5 isn’t the most impressive flagship of 2020 on paper or in the flesh, but it packs one smart feature every other flagship should copy.

A new report details smartphone brands’ performance across each region of the globe. Samsung continued to lead in most regions, while Apple was the most dominant in its home market. 2020 was a tough year for smartphone companies, and the shipment figures prove it. But while some firms weathered the storm and in some cases saw exponential growth, others fell further down the pecking order.
Gearing up for a trip abroad once the coronavirus pandemic has passed? You’ll certainly want to stay connected to family and friends while you travel. This might take one or more travel SIM cards, or you’ll want to check in with your US-based carrier before you head out to ensure you won’t face any connection issues.
Whether you plan to use Google Maps for navigation, other apps stay in touch with friends and family, or if you absolutely need to upload that gorgeous picture of the sunset on the beach to Instagram, it’s never been more important to have an active mobile connection when traveling.

A US-based law firm is looking into whether or not to initiate a Google Pixel 3 class-action lawsuit. The firm is investigating whether alleged defects of the Pixel 3 line are hardware related. If the team finds there’s enough evidence to suggest Google shipped Pixel 3 phones with defective hardware, the suit would likely move forward. It seems that every time Google releases a new Pixel smartphone, the devices are inevitably plagued with accusations of hardware defects.
Update, February 27: After dropping the TV services requirement from its unlimited plan a couple of weeks ago, AT&T has now added two new ways to enjoy unlimited data.
AT&T Unlimited Plus is the option for those who still want video services like DirecTV, DirecTV Now or U-verse TV. This starts at $90 for the first line and includes HD video streaming, 10 GB of tethering (down to 128 Kbps after the first 10 GB), and LTE speeds for the first 22 GB of data (throttled thereafter).
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the rumored BlackBerry Argon, but some new information suggests that the handset might still be on the way. A specification page over at BlackBerry, funnily enough marked as “donotpublish.html“, reveals that the Argon might make its way to market as the DTEK60.
The specification page reaffirms earlier hardware rumors. The DTEK60 looks set to come with a 5.5-inch QHD (2560×1440) resolution display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage.

Microsoft released a set of high-end wireless headphones at the end of 2018. Now, both Apple and Sonos are reportedly also making premium over-ear headphones. Why don’t high-end headphones made by Google exist? In October last year, we found out that Microsoft had secretly developed a set of high-end over-the-ear headphones which eventually hit the market as Microsoft Surface Headphones. The noise-canceling cans are intended to directly compete with the industry-standards of the Bose QC35 and Sony WH-1000XM3.
