As a quick recap, last week we built Tasker Tasks that write our log in and log out times to a file, popped up on screen our total time spent for the day and teased further ideas for what to do with, and how to track, our accumulated data. This week we take to Tasker again, we will build two triggers, the first will be a location aware trigger, and the second will look at attaching to a specific WiFi network.

Fitbit buys mobile payment technology from Coin

The ability to pay for things via NFC is nothing new, especially in the fitness tracker world. Most notably Jawbone’s latest flagship activity tracker, the UP4, allows for the use of NFC payments if you happen to have an American Express card. Now it looks like yet another major player is taking a big step towards bringing mobile payments to their wearables. Fitbit has just announced that it’s acquiring wearable payment assets from Coin, the financial tech company famously known for the NFC-enabled all-in-one credit card.

Khronos launches its cross-platform Vulkan 1.0 API

Heads up my gaming amigos, the Khronos Group has announced version 1.0 of its cross-platform Vulkan graphics API, opening up new possibilities for game developers. Not only is Vulkan supported across a wide range of operating systems, the API will also empower developers with notable performance improvements and cutting edge graphical effects for some extravagant visuals. This isn’t an extemporaneous announcement, the Khronos Group has been working with leading hardware vendors, 3D engine and platform developers for the past 18 months to develop the Vulkan 1.

Nvidia shows off new 64-bit Tegra K1 "Denver" for Android

The Nexus 8 looks like it will be a powerful unit. The 64-bit Tegra K1 is the world’s first 64-bit ARM processor for Android, as Nvidia is happy to explain in a recent post on their company blog. “Denver” is built to provide the highest single-core CPU throughput available, which results also in industry leading dual-core performance. The new 64-bit Tegra K1 is set with 128K + 64K L1 cache, a good update from the 32K + 32K of the 32-bit Tegra K1.
