Panasonic announces 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio LCD panel to rival OLED

While OLED may be seen by many as the future of mobile and large panel displays, LCD manufacturers have recently come along with a number of innovations breathing new life into the panel type, including Quantum Dot and fast refresh rate technology. Today, Panasonic has unveiled its latest LCD IPS display that boasts a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. That’s up to 600 times more contrast than some of the company’s conventional LCD panels, which offer around 1800:1 ratios, and rivals OLED specifications.

Samsung Galaxy S5 gets Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, by accident

Softcard to shut down March 31st, shifts focus to Google Wallet

Softcard, the mobile payment system built by Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, has just announced it’s shutting down on March 31st. When the 31st rolls around, all Softcard mobile applications will stop working and all active accounts will be shut down. Sprint gets the best HTC One (M8) nobody will buy

Today HTC introduced possibly the best version of its flagship HTC One (M8) that few people will get to experience because it’s a Sprint exclusive. The new HTC One (M8) Harman Kardon edition enhances the audio of the already-great One (M8) using Harman Clafi-Fi technology. The app “rebuilds” compressed audio to add in elements of music that’s lost when its compressed to fit on your phone. Harman uses the Clari-Fi technology in select speakers, but this is the first time it’s available on a smartphone, or any other mobile device.

The battle of 64MP phones begins

The Samsung Galaxy A70s has been coming for a long time now, with rumors that it would be one of the first phones with a 64MP camera. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait any longer, because the phone has just launched in India. 8 games that would make great Android games

E3 featured a few mobile game announcements, but most of the excitement centered around new console and PC releases. This is great if you have already invested in an Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or gaming PC, but if you primarily game on your Android phone you might be feeling left in the dust. Does this mean these Android game ports will happen any time soon? In most cases, probably not. Across-the-room wireless charging coming this year, or maybe not (Updated)

TL;DR A company called WiCharge is working with Belkin to release across-the-room wireless charging products. WiCharge claimed two products would launch in 2022. Belkin is disputing the timeframe, casting doubt on a future release schedule. The technology uses IR beams to “beam” power straight to a device from a power node in some other location within a room. Updated, April 28, 2022 (05:10 PM ET): Belkin has disputed claims its partnership with WiCharge will deliver across-the-room wireless charging devices in 2022.
