The Chinese ROM MIUI has been a huge hit among Android device users, and with good reason. This ROM brings with it a unique user interface, as well as several features that are sure to get other custom ROM users envious. One of the best features that MIUI packs is its file explorer, giving you access to browse your locally stored media and your SD card. Now, even non-MIUI phone users can enjoy MIUI’s handy file browser.

TL;DR Microsoft’s Your Phone tool is now getting the ability to run your mobile apps on PC. This feature is restricted to Samsung’s Android phones though. Microsoft’s Your Phone app does a good job of enabling closer integration between Android and Windows, allowing you to mirror your phone screen or get mobile notifications on desktop. Microsoft and Samsung announced even tighter integration at the Galaxy Note 20 series launch last month, letting users run their phone apps on PC.

Even though Speedtest is new to the VPN game, the app has been around for ages. It’s been one of the most popular network speed testing apps for as long as I can remember. Right now the service is in beta, and it will be completely free during this time. Once the beta period is finished, Speedtest VPN should come with both a free and a paid tier, though pricing hasn’t been disclosed at this time.

Playstation Mobile, formerly known as the Playstation Suite, is about to get relaunched this fall. They’ll 30 new titles from a variety of genres including Adventure, Action, Puzzle, and Sports, built by 3rd party developers and publishers, as well as SCE Worldwide Studios. The content will be launched through the Playstation Store initially in 11 countries and regions including Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Although boundary pushing flagship smartphones garner most of the headlines, there’s a budding market for lower cost flagships and mid-range smartphones that is due for a shot in the arm. While there are some great handsets out there, manufacturers are often slow at bringing flagship features to their lowest cost models, which greatly devalues the potential of this important mid-tier. When you can pick up last year’s flagship with better specs and more features at the same price as the latest mid-tier handsets, there often doesn’t appear to be much purpose to many of these models.

Update #2, January 25, 2019, 05:55 AM ET: Samsung is now rolling out Android Pie for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in the U.K. One of our readers tipped us off about the update on Twitter, while Samsung’s U.K. support center has also confirmed it. According to Samsung, the update is hitting SIM-free devices; those with carriers may need to wait a little longer for the rollout. The update has now been spotted in territories in Europe and Asia, but is yet to see a wide rollout in the U.

TL;DR Chrome OS 71, the latest update for the operating system, is rolling out now. It brings a fully working “Better Together” function, which is all about Chromebook/phone synergy. There are also some Pixel Slate-specific features and some Linux improvements. Better Together is all about synergy between your Chromebook and your smartphone. Since this is Google we’re talking about, the best features are reserved for Google hardware like the Google Pixel Slate and the Google Pixel 3.
