TL;DR 20-year-old college student Joel Ortiz faces 10 years in prison for SIM hijacking crimes. Ortiz was convicted of stealing over $5 million in cryptocurrency from several victims. This will be the first jail time sentencing for a SIM hijacker, setting a harsh precedent for future convictions. In a landmark legal win (via Motherboard), a judge will sentence 20-year-old college student Joel Ortiz to 10 years in prison for his SIM hijacking crimes.

Samsung is expanding its lineup of budget A-series smartphones in India. After launching the Galaxy A10s in India just last month, the company has now launched the Galaxy A20s in the country. The new Samsung Galaxy A20s is a follow-up to the Galaxy A20 which was launched in the market earlier this year. The Galaxy A20s comes with an updated Snapdragon chipset instead of the Exynos 7884 found on the Galaxy A20.

Just a few hours ago, Android 5.1 became official, though it had been spotted running on Android One devices earlier this year. The new build includes three main features, multiple-SIM card support (a staple for many Asian devices), device protection, and HD voice calling along with bug fixes and the likes. While there are no concrete details as to when the update will arrive OTA, Google has thankfully begun to post the factory images.

AT&T’s Aio prepaid brand, which you may remember as the brand that got in trouble for using the color magenta, is merging with Cricket, a  more recognizable prepaid brand. AT&T is merging to two brands as it just gained the Cricket brand by acquiring its parent company Leap Wireless yesterday. The carrier had plans for the switch since October, if not before then, and wasted no time announcing the change to its users.

Update (05/01): Following yesterday's substantial leak, the Nokia 6 (2018) has now been announced. The device will be officially known as the Nokia 6 (second-generation) and, as was hinted at yesterday, it will feature most of the same specs as the previous handset and arrive with the 13-month-old Android Nougat OS. The biggest changes to this edition of the Nokia 6 are the inclusion of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chip (the previous model had a Snapdragon 430), OZO Audio recording technology, and a “Bothie"

Have you noticed an update to the Google Translate app? You may have realized there is not much of a change.
