GPS is one of the most useful features on smartphones these days. Whether you’re looking for gas, food, or just a better way to avoid traffic, you probably use a maps app every day. It’s a good time to be looking for a cell phone carrier. Not only are unlimited plans now the norm, but carriers are throwing perks at you to convince you to join. T-Mobile has been on the warpath for years now with plans like Carrier Freedom and #getoutofthered. AT&T recently joined the fray by offering up free HBO to its customers. That, in turn, made T-Mobile offer free Netflix and Sprint offer up free Hulu.

Samsung’s One UI 4.0 beta has missed the expected September 9 release date. A Samsung Community Manager has confirmed that the software is not ready yet. There’s no word on a specific rollout date, but the beta should be available sometime later this month. Samsung’s next big upgrade to its Android skin will come in the form of One UI 4.0. Pokemon Go’s December Community Day will last a weekend and feature all of 2018’s event Pokémon and accompanying special moves. Pokemon Go also expanded the Pokémon storage limit to 2,000. Legendary Pokémon Cresselia will show up in Raid Battles for over half of December. With a little over a month until the end of 2018, Niantic Labs announced Pokémon Go’s December Community Day. Appropriately enough, next month’s Community Day will feature every Pokémon featured in previous Community Days.
USB Type-C has been designed as a solution to much more than just moving data between devices. The connection standard already has the 3.5mm audio jack in its sights and it could also become a ubiquitous replacement for video connections too. In the meantime, the groups behind HDMI and USB have announced a new HDMI Alt Mode that allows for a simple connection between the two.
The new spec allows for a simple USB Type-C to HDMI cable that has just one of each connection type at each end of the cable.
