Apple vs Google – the “defining fight” Apple came up quite a few times during the interview, with Schmidt eyeing it as one of the most important Google competitors, if not the most important one – he sees important rivals in other companies like Amazon and Facebook, but not Microsoft, at least not for now.

Essential’s Andy Rubin was revealed to be taking a break from Essential yesterday in the wake of a report regarding an “inappropriate relationship” he was alleged to have had while at Google. Though there must be a lot going on at the company currently, Essential continued with its bi-weekly Reddit “Ask Me Anything” threads yesterday where the team weighed in on a variety of topics. Firstly, they did touch on Rubin’s absence, simply stating that it was “business as usual” at Essential.

Google reportedly extends its work from home policy through to July 2021

TL;DR Google employees will continue to work from home until at least July 2021. The decision will affect approximately 200,000 individuals. The move comes as the coronavirus pandemic intensifies in the US. Update: July 27, 2020 at 12:48 PM ET: Google confirmed its new work-from-home policy in an email to Android Authority. Sundar Pichai sent an email to employees this morning, which said: To give employees the ability to plan ahead, we are extending our global voluntary work from home option through June 30, 2021 for roles that don’t need to be in the office.

Google reportedly thinking about selling its Zagat restaurant review guide

Since 2011, Zagat has been under Google ownership in an effort to push the search giant’s local search efforts. Fast forward six years, and it looks like Google might be ready to offload the restaurant review guide onto someone else’s shoulders. According to Reuters, Google informally met with several companies regarding a possible Zagat sale. Even though we do not know how much Google wants to sell the restaurant guide for, and that there is no guarantee that Zagat will even be offloaded, any sale will presumably include Zagat’s brand name and website.
