Goo.gl URLs can now deep link to Android and iOS apps

When it comes to sharing web links, the goo.gl URL shortening service is one of the best options out there. Now Google is improving the service further by making it possible for app developers to create links that will take users to specific places within their apps. Simply put, these deep links will automatically detect if a person clicking on them is an iOS or Android user, and it will then see if the correct app is installed on their device.

Google Photos now lets you search for, copy/paste text in photos

Google has quietly added more optical character recognition (OCR) functionality to Google Photos, essentially allowing users to search for text within photos. The improved OCR tech also lets you copy/paste said text in photos. The new capabilities were confirmed by the Google Photos Twitter account after a user spotted it (h/t: 9to5Google). The search feature is currently available on smartphones and the web, accessible by typing a search query in the search bar.

A strange story emerged over the weekend, as the upcoming Google Pixel Watch was purportedly left behind in a Chicago restaurant and obtained by a Redditor. The Redditor sent images of the watch to Android Central, and it looks like the user has now posted more images and info about the wearable.

How to change your Twitter password

As we found out today, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is not immune to having his own account on his social network compromised. Just after 4 p.m. Eastern Time, his official Twitter account started posting racist and offensive posts,according to CNN. Those tweets were quickly deleted. Twitter’s official communications outlet confirmed that Dorsey’s account was indeed hacked, and that it is now “investigating what happened.”  Engadget adds that the source of the hacked messages was the SMS service Cloudhopper.

Nexus 7 (2012) 3G gets Android 5.1 factory image

The factory image has the same build number as the Wifi-only Nexus 7, LMY47D. As for what’s new here? As with any other Android 5.1 build, you can expect the update to be mostly bug fixes and performance tweaks, with a few very minor front-facing changes such a new “device protection mode” and changes to the interruption slider that makes the experience a little closer to the silent mode from KitKat that was removed in Lollipop.

The Motorola One will launch in the US after all, but what about Power variant?
