Sprint, Lookout Aim for Safer Android Experience with Free Security App

After a number of malware attacks on Android, including some running with Angry Birds, Google has responded by removing almost 100 applications identified to be harmful to smartphones. Sprint, however, is keen on increasing its customers’ protection– as a result, it partners with Lookout Inc. to launch a free Lookout Mobile Security, an Android security app. It has a premium version, released late last year. The app has a Safe Browsing feature for a worry-free browsing and net use, like phone banking, through protection against phishing scams.

Tronsmart Draco AW80 review - Android Authority

The Tronsmart Draco AW80 turns your TV into a powerful octa-core Android smart TV. Access YouTube, Netflix, the Google Play store, and so much more. Android is making big in-roads into our lounges and Google is leading the way. Media streaming devices like the Chromecast are gaining popularity, and now there is Android TV, as seen on the Nexus Player. However, there is still a lot to be said for having a fully functional Android box connected to your TV.

Xiaomi Redmi Go: Cheap daily driver?

When the Xiaomi Redmi Go launched in India, we talked about how the phone is perfectly suited as a first smartphone. At just $65 (4,500 rupees in India), the Android Go-powered handset seems designed to be a transitional device for anyone thinking of upgrading from a feature phone. Can the Redmi Go handle a modern work load? It really got me thinking though. We’ve come a long way with smartphones. Trickle down economics and the ensuing democratization of hardware means that even budget smartphones are approaching flagship grade performance from just a few years ago.

Boost your focus with the FOCI wearable

Technology is amazing, but sometimes it’s more distracting than it is helpful. On average, people get distracted from what they’re doing every three minutes, which adds up to 31 days of distractions every year. Thankfully, technology is also here to help. You can take on your distraction with the FOCI focus-boosting wearable, and it’s on offer this week. All you have to do is pop it on your waistband and get started with your day.

Get more on your Galaxy S7, S6 or Note 5 screen with hidden DPI scaling settings

You know how amongst all the cool new Android N features there’s also native DPI scaling (the ability to resize on-screen content)? It turns out the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have it too. Well, kind of. With a very simple process – no root or special skills required, I promise – you can squeeze more content onto your Galaxy S7’s screen. (Update: we’ve since been told the same method works for the Galaxy S6 and Note 5 as well.

Google Pixel 6 Pro renders from reliable source here

TL;DR A very reliable leaker just launched some renders of the Google Pixel 6 Pro. The renders are a little different from the ones we saw last week. If these prove to be accurate, the Pixel 6 Pro could be a love letter to Pixel fans. Last week, we were surprised to see a set of leaked renders for the upcoming slate of Pixel flagships. However, the source of those renders has an unreliable track record when it comes to leaks, so we were skeptical of their accuracy at the time.

Google will provide carriers with an Android RCS client, thanks to Jibe Mobile acquisition

Standard text messaging through mobile carriers doesn’t exactly provide you with a ton of unique and helpful features. Group messaging through SMS is a joke, and there’s no way to see when the other person you’re chatting with has read your message or not. That’s why third-party messaging services are so popular. WhatsApp, Google Hangouts, iMessage and Facebook Messenger can do all these things and more, which is why Google, among a large number of other companies, have committed to a new standard called Rich Communications Services (RCS) that allows them to employ these features.

Introducing WALT: an open-source latency testing tool from Google

In mobile reviews, we toss around the word “snappy” a lot. When we describe something as snappy, what we really mean is that the device has a low latency between input and output, right? A snappy touch screen feels like you’re actually moving physical objects around when you swipe and tap because the latency is so low that you barely perceive it. Although users can always feel whether a device is snappy, there aren’t a whole lot of tools available to developers to measure this metric.

LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition OTA of Android 5.0 Lollipop rolling out

The Google Play Edition of the LG G Pad 8.3 is now receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update. Your typical rollout schedule is in place, so it may be a few days before it lands on your G Pad, but you can celebrate that you are the first GPE device to receive the Lollipop update. It appears the update runs a little over 400MB and requires that you have another one hundred MB of free internal storage beyond that to make the install.
