We’re approaching the traditional launch cycle for Samsung’s next phablet and both, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, are leaking more frequently; two separate reports today have revealed the supposed launch date for the smartphones but it’s earlier than past years.
First, DigiTimes reported that the Galaxy Note 5 would be announced on August 12th with a launch in major markets just two days later on August 14th and now, SamMobile is reporting that its sources have confirmed the August 12 launch but point towards a release nine days later on August 21.

Google quietly hinted that the Pixel Launcher will let you toggle between light and dark themes. The toggle will arrive as a software update, though Google did not say when the update will be available. The Pixel Launcher is exclusive to Pixel phones, though you can download unofficial ports. Even though the Pixel Launcher features a dark theme, you do not control when it turns on. That will eventually change, though how Android Police learned about it is a story unto itself.
OnePlus has had a phenomenal 2018, delivering the fantastic OnePlus 6, landing a deal with T-Mobile, and launching the slick OnePlus 6T (albeit without a headphone jack).
The company isn’t finished for the year though, as it’s announced late yesterday that OxygenOS 9.0.0 and Android Pie are officially rolling out to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.
The update brings a new UI, new navigation gestures (on the OnePlus 5T only), gaming mode 3.
In addition to the 5G-capable Kirin 990 processor and FreeBuds 3, Huawei today also announced a mild refresh to the P30 Pro, including new two-tone colorways and improved camera features. Interestingly, Huawei calls this refreshed version the “New P30 Pro,” in an effort to bring the 6-month-old phone back into the spotlight. Huawei is expected to delay the Western release of the Mate 30 Pro, so a P30 Pro facelift could fill that void.
Despite boasting the industry’s first 5G capabilities (via a modular accessory), the Motorola Moto Z3 isn’t really a flagship contender, given it’s $480 price tag. Instead, it’s more of an upper mid-range handset, sharing a similar price bracket to the OnePlus 6, Samsung Galaxy A8, and now-discounted premium handsets from 2017.
The phone is also a Verizon exclusive, meaning it’s only coming to the U.S. market, which doesn’t have a lot of competition around the $500 mark.

The Poco M2 is now official in India, essentially being a rebranded Redmi 9. The phone features a 6.53-inch screen, a 5,000mAh battery, and a quad-rear camera array. The device goes on sale on September 15 on Flipkart. Hot on the heels of the Poco X3 launch, the Xiaomi sub-brand has now announced its latest affordable offering in the form of the Poco M2. And it looks like a rebadged Xiaomi Redmi 9.
Many older devices are a bit limited when it comes to RAM. RAM (Random Access Memory) is where your applications store parts of their program and data during operation. One of the biggest RAM-hogs on stock phones are the customised Home Screens, such as HTC Sense.
If you were to swap out to a homescreen that takes up a fraction of the memory the bloaters do, it would load faster, operate smoothly, and leave far more memory available for other multi-task applications to make good use of.

Black Friday is getting closer and shops are gearing up to give you some juicy discounts.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 both offered a dual-aperture camera last year, and it’s an interesting concept. The feature allowed users to shoot at a wider aperture (f/1.5) in low light, then switching to a narrower aperture (f/2.4) in daytime conditions when you don’t need to capture all the available light.
Now, noted tipster Ice Universe has claimed that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 camera will offer the ability to switch between three apertures (f/1.
Samsung has released a new ad that once again picks a fight with its biggest rival, Apple. The video ad, dubbed “Moving On,” follows on from last year’s “Growing Up” campaign, and sees Samsung using recent controversies surrounding the Cupertino giant as ammunition in the ongoing fight for supremacy at the top of the mobile industry.
The cheeky ad (above) follows a woman making a long distance trip where her travel plans are repeatedly scuppered by the slow performance of her phone.
