The Korean Intellectual Property Office recently published Samsung’s patent application for an earphone that seems to be a compact Bluetooth headset and smart glass rolled into one whose shape quickly calls to mind a familiar object in Dragon Ball Z — the scouter. Samsung’s patent application referred to the device as simply the “Earphone.” Is it the rumored Samsung Galaxy Gear Glass redesigned? Or is it a design for an entirely new product?

Last year’s Moto E4 and E4 Plus were great devices that grabbed lots of attention thanks to their affordable price tags. The smaller of the two was initially available for as low as $70, while the Plus model went for $180. Sure, the smartphones didn’t have flagship specs, but they still packed enough power under the hood for the average user. At an event in Brazil, Motorola has now announced their successors, the Moto E5 and E5 Plus, joined by the more affordable Moto E5 Play.

Amazon is updating its Kindle app for Android with tighter Audible integration, making it easy to switch between the regular and the audio version of a book. Amazon bought audiobook purveyor Audible in 2008 to establish a foothold in the fast growing segment of audiobooks. Now the retail giant is giving users of Kindle for Android quick access to the Audible version of the book they are reading, all without leaving the app.

Since the latest update, Pokémon Go is no longer compatible with rooted Android devices, but do not fret, there’s a way around this rather harsh restriction. First, a little recap: last week, Niantic Labs began rolling out a new update to the wildly popular Pokémon Go for Android. The main addition is Buddy, a Pokémon sidekick that will walk by side in your travels, and the update also includes a bunch of smaller tweaks.

David Imel / Android Authority Update, December 8, 2020 (12:45 PM ET): Yesterday, Google pushed out the December 2020 Android security patch to most of the active Pixel phones. However, the update for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL was notably absent. Now, though, the update is available from the usual sources (OTA is here and the factory image is here). This will be the final update for the Pixel 2 line.

Now that you can track your phone’s location online, and even track other people’s locations, it is almost impossible to lose your phone given that you have an application that tracks your device’s locations. But what happens when you don’t have one of those programs installed? Now, thanks to Lookout Labs, you can turn to Plan B. More specifically, if you lost your phone and did not install Lookout Mobile Security, or any other location tracking service, simply go to the Android Market Web Store and install Plan B remotely.

Fresh off of watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens last night, I was hoping I could find some way to sneak it into the news for the day. My wish has been granted, as Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes has now received a new update, bringing in characters from the latest Star Wars movie. New unlockable characters include the movie’s villain, Kylo Ren, as well as hero characters such as Finn and Rey.

Google believes that our future relationship with technology will be intrinsically conversational. That’s why they’ve put so much heft behind projects like Google Home, their recentGoogle Assistant, and machine learning focused on language. Now Google Maps is getting an upgrade with this perspective in mind. The goal is to make hands-free interaction with your smartphone safer and easier while you’re on the road. Although Google wants future roads filled with autonomous vehicles, they also want to make sure as many people as possible stay alive to witness that achievement.

Horror has the power to shock, disturb, and frighten us. But it can just as easily move us and force much-needed introspection. Such is the case with Martyrs Lane, coming to horror streamer Shudder Thursday. The AMC Networks–owned streaming service picked up Martyrs Lane ahead of its premiere at Canada’s Fantasia Film Festival, where one of its young stars, Sienna Sayer, earned a Cheval Noir Special Mention. The film is a thoughtful, chilling look at how the past can haunt us, and grief can’t simply be buried and forgotten.
