We’ve never been more aware of what lurks outside. Throughout day-to-day life, your phone, keys, headphones, and anything else you touch can pick up a substantial amount of germs and bacteria. Right now, you can keep all your daily devices cleaner by picking up the Samsung Qi wireless charger and UV sanitizer for only $37.99. That’s 24% off its usual retail price of $49.99. Solar cells could soon add power to your smartphones and tablets

Soon you can charge your smartphone while sunbathing, with a gallium arsenide solar cell chemistry from Alta Devices. Power efficiency can make or break a mobile device. If we weren’t constrained with the power supply, then our mobile devices would probably be even faster and more powerful than they are now. But even as mobile CPUs and GPUs are increasingly becoming power efficient, we still find ourselves finding the need to plug in at the end of the day (or even at the middle of the day).

Tecno beat Samsung to become number one in Africa in 2020

TL;DR According to a new report, Samsung is no longer the top smartphone brand in Africa. Transsion’s Tecno became the continent’s biggest smartphone shipper in 2020. The likes of Itel, Xiaomi, and Oppo also grew their market share portions. Samsung may be the biggest smartphone maker globally, but this isn’t the case in Africa. According to a new report from research firm Counterpoint, the dominant Korean smartphone maker was bested by little known Chinese brand Tecno in 2020.

That HTC Vive smartphone video? Take it with a grain of salt (Updated)

Update, 2:52PM EST: The video was taken down from Vimeo and Shaun Saperstein’s website (you can still see it in on Evan Blass’ Twitter feed). That makes it seem like the video was not supposed to be publicized. Original post, 09:10AM EST: HTC’s smartphone business is in dire need of a reboot, but the company’s other big venture – virtual reality – is actually growing steadily. It wouldn’t be surprising therefore that HTC would want to use the Vive brand to boost its smartphone lineup.

Based on some strings of code XDA-Developers found earlier today, Xiaomi is working on a smartphone with a 64MP primary camera. Found in the latest MIUI 10 China Developer ROM for the Redmi K20 Pro, the strings reference a 64MP “ultra-pixel” mode several times. The strings also reference a “64MP DUAL CAMERA” watermark for images. This lines up with information from Ice Universe published on Weibo. According to the known leaker, Xiaomi subsidiary Redmi is working on a smartphone with a 64MP camera.

Android Messages version 2.2 brings UI tweaks, makes group conversations easier to start

Android Messages, Google’s default SMS/RCS messaging app formerly known as Messenger, has been updated to version 2.2.67. The update began rolling out yesterday and introduces a couple of interface improvements and additional buttons. First up, the plus symbol used to add stickers has been changed to make it more prominent: it’s now a white cross inside a circle that’s the same color as the theme. This becomes a keyboard symbol when you’re in the stickers collection to make it clear how you can return to the regular typing interface — previously it remained as a small cross.

Ceros Revolution review - Quad core, 2048 x 1536, 9.7 inch tablet

I am constantly amazed at the range of Android tablets that are coming out of China. As the song goes there are short ones, tall ones, fine ones, kind ones – okay maybe not kind ones, but there are tablets for almost every need. However the 9.7 inch category still remains popular due to the success of the iPad. Many Android tablet makers including Google (with its Nexus 10) have tried to push the 10.
