Sony today announced the Sony Xperia 1 flagship, alongside the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus mid-rangers. Sony hopes the three devices appeal to people who want modern looks and powerful performance.
Taking a new direction Sony is going all in with the 21:9 aspect ratio. All three of its latest phones adopt this screen shape in part, says Sony, because more creators are publishing 21:9 content. Sony points to how major video providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Sony Pictures are shifting to the 21:9 aspect ratio.
When it comes to smartphone cameras, the Google Pixel 2 is the de facto benchmark for most of us, even though it came out in 2017. Whether it’s still the best smartphone camera isn’t the point — it’s simply the phone camera most of us are most familiar with. That’s why I took a bunch of comparison shots with the Pixel 2 while I was in China for the Vivo Nex launch this week.
Apple kicked off its annual WWDC keynote address by serving up a look at iOS 13, the next version of its mobile operating system. iOS has a few features we’ve seen — or shall see — on Android, such as a dark mode, swipe-based keyboard, and easy website/app sign-ins.

Update, August 1, 2018, (02:39AM EST): The HTC U12 Plus has been criticized for its pressure-sensitive hardware buttons, as some felt it was a poor substitute for proper volume and power keys.
Fortunately, the Taiwanese firm has an update on-hand and it’s now landing in the U.S., according to Android Police and HTC global PR head Jeff Gordon. The update, which carries the version number 1.21.617.3, weighs in at 437MB and includes the June security update.
Earlier today, we reported on new details regarding the all-new HTC One’s specs, alongside pictures of a dummy unit of the device that had surfaced in an Ebay auction listing. Now it appears that an unopened Verizon retail package has also hit the web.

With all the commotion between the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Active, S6 Edge+, and Note 5, it’s no wonder that very little has been said -or seen- of the more “diminutive” form factored product in Samsung’s sizable stable of smartphones. Indeed, it has been assumed there would be a Galaxy S6 Mini in light of the ghosts of trends past, but we nothing solid had materialized. Until now, that is.
There’s a certain charm to hidden games. From the flight simulator hidden in Microsoft Excel to the chess game Facebook tucked away into Messenger, there’s just something extra fun about tapping into a game that’s secreted away into somewhere it doesn’t belong. To followup their chess game, Facebook Messenger has hidden a new game in the popular chat service in honor of March Madness. It’s a basketball game, and here we’ll be telling you how to get into the action.
5G connectivity is expected to grow massively in 2020, as most flagship phones will offer the feature as well as some mid-range devices with the right chipset.
We’ve seen a range of companies announce plans to offer 5G in 2020, and HTC has joined the party in announcing its plans for a 5G phone.
Company president Yves Maitre announced the news in an interview with UDN (h/t: XDA), but the sad truth is that this will likely do little to change the firm’s precarious situation.
TL;DR
A research team conducted a controlled experiment to prove if “phone listening” is actually a thing. The experiment showed that your phone is likely not listening to you, but it could be recording your screen and sending that data to remote servers. The methodology for the experiment is a bit flawed, so it still could be possible “phone listening” is happening. A new study conducted by academics at Northeastern University in Massachusetts attempted to answer one of the biggest conspiracy theory questions of our time: are our smartphones listening to our conversations?
