Inside the search giant's New York retail home

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority At this point, Apple has over 500 retail stores around the world. Microsoft had a bunch of stores (but now only has a handful). Even Samsung had permanent retail locations before the COVID-19 pandemic forced it to shut them all down. Google, however, has been content with the online Google Store and some random pop-up establishments throughout the years. LG GA7900 Google TV first look video from CES 2013

We’ve reported last week about LG’s upcoming Google TVs – the new GA6400 and GA7900 series – that the Nexus phone maker introduced at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. While the platform hasn’t taken off as quickly as Google and LG — as well as other partners —  would’ve liked, the third generation Google TV may just strike the right chord with consumers. Since specs can only convey so much, we thought you’d also be interested in seeing a quick video demonstration of the smart TV.

No more low-quality accessories: an interview with Made for Google's Blade Olson

You just bought a brand new Pixel 2 and decided to purchase a few extra USB Type-C cables and a case to go along with it. All of your new accessories were pretty cheap on Amazon, so you decided to give them a shot. Unfortunately the case you received isn’t compatible with the Pixel 2’s new Active Edge feature, and the USB Type-C cables cause your phone to overheat more than it should.

Oklahoma private university makes Fitbits mandatory

A Christian university in Tulsa, Oklahoma has made wearing Fitbits required of all students at all hours. They’re calling this part of their “whole person education” approach, and students’ fitness statistics will even be collected across holidays like spring break. Oral Roberts University has been pushing better fitness for its students for a long time. Previously, students had to manually log workout routines as a part of a mandatory health regimen.

Root now available for LG G4 carrier models

One of the benefits to having an Android phone is the ability to customise any number of settings and features once you’ve performed a root, which is akin to jailbreaking which iPhone users may be accustomed to. Rooting relies on an unlocked bootloader and while a root was achieved for the unlocked version of the LG G4, the carrier branded models have so far had to wait. If you’ve been waiting then you’re in luck as root is now available for carrier branded models of the LG G4, both for the major US carrier devices (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon) and other international carriers.

Sprint's Samsung Epic 4G Touch price to drop to $99.99 on June 21?

The Galaxy S3 US launch is finally (almost) upon us. For Android fans in the US, that’s great news, not only because they’ll get to play with one of the best smartphones ever, but also because some older devices will become more accessible than ever. We’ve suspected for a while that the Samsung’s Galaxy S2, still a more than decent phone, will see discounts in the coming weeks, and now we have a confirmation of sorts from TechnoBuffalo.

Android in car apps move closer to reality with Ford's OpenXC project

Android is already integrated in a wide range of devices besides the “conventional” smartphones and tablets that we know and love. The list of examples is long and includes home automation systems, various gadgets, appliances, and even vehicles. Google is a big supporter of this trend, having unveiled its Android @ Home initiative back in May 2011. Unfortunately, Google’s framework (based on Android and Arduino open source hardware) hasn’t produced yet any palpable results.

Android Wear 2.0 update starts rolling out to three smartwatches

Android Wear 2.0 was officially launched on February 8 after months of speculation. It arrived with the LG Watch Style and LG Watch Sport, but it has taken until now for Google to announce the update for any previous watches running Android Wear 1.0. Via the Android Wear support page, a Google Community Manager has revealed that the first three watches to receive the update are the Fossil Q Founder, Casio Smart Outdoor Watch, and TAG Heuer Connected.
