OnePlus' Camera Lab: A robot arm used to simulate multiple shooting scenarios
Note: OnePlus reached out to us after the article was published to clarify that the firmware sent to DxOMark for testing was, in fact, the same as the retail firmware out of the box. The story has been updated to reflect the same.
Amidst all the controversy around the “overhyped” and less-than-stellar cameras on the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, the company invited Android Authority to take a behind the scenes look at what it’s been cooking up to improve imaging on its products.
While we may have some of the most draconian wireless carriers in the world, we can’t deny these US corporations sure do know how to handle competition. This war is not limited to device availability, data speeds and network coverage, either. Us Americans tend to be quite picky about the small details and really want the companies we patronize to treat us well.
Customer support is a big deal in this market, and if you are looking for the wireless carrier that will treat you the best you should definitely keep reading.
Update: OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus 3 will launch globally on June 14 at 12:30PM EDT (9:30AM PDT). Invites are gone for good, VR users will be able to buy the device exclusively in the first two hours, and open sales will start at 3PM EDT.
Original post: The OnePlus 3 is coming in just two weeks.
OnePlus put up a teaser page on its Chinese website that states that the OnePlus 3 will be introduced at a “conference” on June 15 at 10AM.
Gesture navigation is a feature on almost all Android phones today, allowing you to swipe the screen to go back, home, or activate multitasking.
The back gesture, which requires you to swipe in from the left or right edge of the screen, isn’t perfect though. Fortunately, it seems like Google will let you tweak that in Android 11.
9to5Google managed to activate a new Gesture Settings page on the Android 11 developer preview, and this page lets you fine-tune the back gesture for either edge of the screen.
Android co-founder Andy Rubin probably didn’t imagine this being how Essential‘s first year of existence would play out. The Essential Phone turned out to not be the juggernaut we wanted it to be, shipping delays pushed the phone’s actual debut well into August instead of the original June timeframe, and customers’ personal information accidentally being shared.
Alas, things don’t get better for Rubin in 2017 as Essential was sued by Keyssa, a company backed by Tony Fadell, co-founder of Nest and the brainchild behind the iPod’s concept and initial design.
It was only yesterday we brought the news that Sony’s latest budget phone, the Xperia J, is heading to Carphone Warehouse in the UK in a matter of days. Now, another retailer in the country has announced that it too will be selling Sony’s colorful offering.
Clove has put up the product page for the Xperia J. This time, we don’t have to guess just how low Sony is willing to price the J for to grab the attention of those who are looking for an entry-level Android phone.
The Amazon Echo Show arguably kickstarted the smart display market when it launched just over a year ago. But if the $230 asking price has been just out of reach for you, the online retailer has a pleasant surprise in store.
The deal applies to both the black and white models and will be live from “now through Prime Day.”
The Echo Show is essentially Amazon’s Alexa on a touchscreen, bringing the same voice commands and expansive skill-set to a new form factor.
Google is making a lot of money from its bread and butter business, showing ads against search results. Now the tech giant is bringing ads for apps to the Play Store.
Here’s how it works – search for a term like “travel apps” or “fitness” and the first app shown in the search results page could be a paid listing by Expedia or Endomondo. Just like on Google.com, the Play Store will show you relevant results from developers who are willing to pay for the privilege.
Remote desktop connection on a Nexus 5
The update changes version number to 36.0.1985.39 and, immersive mode aside, doesn’t seem to change the app’s functionality. In the previous version, the persistent toolbar at the top of the UI was taking up precious real estate, especially on smartphones. Now the remote desktop can be viewed and used in full screen mode, with an unobtrusive button at the top allowing you to bring back the toolbar.
In a bid to steal the limelight late last week as T-Mobile released the two company’s flagship Android phones on the same day, both HTC and Samsung sent precious gifts to the carrier’s chief exec — golden versions of the HTC One (M8) and the Samsung Galaxy S5.
Throughout launch day, T-Mobile CEO John Legere was (re)tweeting some promotional stuff about the Galaxy S5. Then, some time during the day, appeared Legere’s post about the 24-karat gold-plated HTC One (M8) — not just the mere Amber Gold variant.
