LG Vu 3 is in the works, suggests newly leaked images

All eyes might be on the LG G2, but that’s not the only new device in the works from LG. If two newly leaked images are to be believed, LG is also preparing to release the LG Vu 3. The first of these images comes from Picasa. As you will see below, it is an image supposedly taken from the camera of the upcoming LG Vu 3. The photo details reveal the model number as LG-F300L, and the image itself is named as vu3-vr-panaroma.

Samsung agrees to pay $548 million to Apple for patent infringement

It all began back in 2011. Apple sued Samsung for infringing the company’s patents for things like “multi-touch gestures” and “tap to zoom” capabilities. The next year, a court ruled in Apple’s favor. Apple requested $2.5 billion in damages, but the judge decided that Samsung should pay $1,049,343,540. After an arduous legal battle that has seen many chapters, Samsung has finally agreed to pay a little over half that. The Huawei Mate 30 contains no parts from the US

The Huawei ban explicitly states that Huawei can no longer conduct business with any US-based firms. This teardown suggests that Huawei is fully capable of developing smartphones without buying any US hardware. However, the hardware isn’t everything. The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro don’t have access to Google apps which is likely the biggest reason why the device still doesn’t have a full global release. Additionally, even though the smartphone’s hardware didn’t originate from the United States, many of the technologies included in the phone necessitate licenses with US-based companies in order to be sold.

You can now pre-book Samsung's upcoming foldables in India

TL;DR Samsung India has announced that users can now pre-book its upcoming phones. Users will need to spend Rs 2,000 to pre-book the devices, but get a Smart Tag for free. The pre-booking fee will be subtracted from the cost of the device. Samsung confirmed that it’ll be showing off new Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold phones at its Unpacked event on August 11, allowing users to pre-reserve these devices as well.

ZTE becomes first Chinese manufacturer to produce 500 million handsets

During the company’s 15th anniversary celebration of its terminals division, ZTE announced it has become the first Chinese mobile device manufacturer to produce 500 million handsets. Moving forward, ZTE has plans for continued growth the mobile device business, while increasing its brand value internationally. Outlined by Chairman Hou Weigui, high-end boutique devices will be the new focus for the company. To ensure success of its future mobile devices, Hou has pledged as much resources and support as needed.

Average smartphone sale prices are increasing, report suggests

If you heard about the cost of the iPhone X last month, you might have been taken aback. Apple’s flagship smartphone set consumers back $999 when it goes on sale next week, making it one of the most expensive commercial smartphones ever produced. Recent data suggests that it may be part of a trend towards more expensive devices. According to research provided by insights firm GfK (via Recode), the average smartphone sale price is increasing around the globe and has risen 7% in Q3 2017 compared to Q3 2016.

Google brings app shortcuts to its Hangouts app

Spam and fake accounts are two of the more notable problems facing social media and messaging apps right now. But WhatsApp has detailed its progress in the fight against these issues. According to Venturebeat (via 9to5Mac), WhatsApp executives revealed that the messaging platform bans about two million accounts each month. The executives were speaking at a press briefing in New Delhi. The company developed a machine learning system to detect and ban accounts engaged in “inappropriate behavior,” the executives said.
