Amazon Fire Phone now just $200 without contract

This is a great, and interesting, shift for big A to make. On one hand, we have a device that is decently equipped, but has been all but laughed off for its overall underwhelming experience. However, at just $200, this phone is now in Moto G price competition. This may make a huge difference in sales, as the Fire Phone compares to the Moto G with twice as much RAM, at 2GB, 5 more MP in the camera, at 13MP and the more powerful Snapdragon 800 SoC, versus the Snapdragon 400 in the Moto G.

Amazon game controller spotted, evidence of Amazon gaming set-top box?

Thanks to a new filing with the Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações — essentially the Brazilian equivalent of the FCC — we now have an image of an Amazon-branded game controller that suggests a gaming-capable set-top box isn’t too far off. As you can see in the screenshot, the gamepad looks quite a bit like an Xbox controller, like we’ve seen from many of the Android micro-consoles such as the Ouya. There’s two thumbsticks, a D-pad, four action buttons, shoulder buttons and triggers.

Archos put an Android phone into an electric scooter

TL;DR French company Archos will release an electric scooter with an Android phone built into the handlebars. Connected to the motor, the phone will feature software that allows the user to see and control the scooter’s functions. The phone is no powerhouse, but is 3G-connected and enables data while on the move. There’s a certain demographic of city-dwellers who love electric scooters. Smaller and lighter than a bicycle and requiring only a small amount of physical exertion to operate, an electric scooter is a fun and easy way to get quickly from one area of a large city to another.

Google Photos 4.0 is available now for everyone. Google announced that the Google Photos Android app would get a revamp this year, and now it looks like that revamp is rolling out to everyone. Along with a Google Photos Material Design theme, the app also gets a new swipe gesture that should make your life a bit easier when you’re looking for photo info.

Google's new Play Store algorithm to halve size of updates

The amount of data required for updating Google Play apps can really send your mobile bill through the roof, especially if you aren’t using Wi-Fi. Fortunately, your concerns have been heard. Originally created by Colin Percival, Google has rolled out a new Delta algorithm, bsdiff, which reduces the app update size and lets you save on the data required for updating them. This new algorithm does this by further compressing the size of patches for apps and games.

iPad marketshare down to 43% due to intense Android competition

The numbers are in for how many tablets where sold during the last quarter of 2012 and although Apple remains at the top, strong competition from companies selling Android based tablets means that Apple’s Q4 market share decreased by nearly three percent.Overall the number of tablets shipped far exceeded predictions and according to preliminary data, from the International Data Corporation (IDC), a record-breaking  52.5 million units were shipped worldwide during the last three months of 2012.

Kiwi Browser is probably one of the best Android browsers out there, offering an OLED-friendly dark mode and an intuitive UI. The latest update has just dropped this week, and it brings a rather noteworthy feature to the table. The update, spotted by XDA-Developers, brings support for Google Chrome extensions to the Chromium-powered browser. The outlet notes that any Google Chrome extension that doesn’t rely on x86 code should work fine, so do expect a few incompatible add-ons.
