This week in Apple news, we heard some solid-sounding rumors related to the 2021 crop of premium iPhones. Apparently, they could come with specialized OLED panels that would enable them to have 120Hz refresh rates. If so, it would be a long time coming for an iPhone to pass by the 60Hz mark.
In other Apple news, we heard about a supposed update to Apple TV hardware, new AirPods, Facebook throwing some significant shade at Apple, and Google Stadia finally landing on iOS.
Competition in the cloud storage arena is reaching a boiling point, with all major players announcing new features, more storage, and grand plans for the future.Quick recap: Apple will bake iCloud directly into OS X Mountain Lion, Google Drive is finally coming out of vaporware, and Microsoft will make SkyDrive ubiquitous, by integrating in with the upcoming Windows 8. Now, cloud storage specialists Box and Dropbox take the stage, announcing (nearly at the same time) updates for their Android apps.
In a sea of plastic/rubber hybrid phone cases that all look the same, it can be tough to find one that protects your mobile device and looks good while doing it. If you’re in the market for a phone case that will bring a unique look to your smartphone, look no further. Carved, a company out of Indiana, is making smartphone cases that truly stand out from the pack. They’re made of real wood, and each one is completely unique.
TL;DR
Google has revealed that the Pixel 7 series will launch in fall 2022. The phones will be equipped with a next-generation Tensor SoC and Android 13. Google has kicked off day one of its I/O developer conference with a bunch of announcements, including the Pixel 6a mid-range smartphone. However, the company also had another surprise in store when it confirmed the Pixel 7 series was coming later this year.
Last week when Google announced the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL would include the headphone jack, I nearly pulled my hamstring jumping for joy. While the news is still good, Google’s official reasoning is dubious. When interviewed at Google I/O 2019, product manager Soniya Jobanputra said “We really felt that consumers at this price point and this tier really needed flexibility [for the headphone jack].” This insinuates only those with limited funds want a headphone jack.
BlackBerry responded, claiming that it and TCL were in the process of looking into additional adhesive options, and that only a small number of KEYone owners have been experiencing display issues thus far.
Now BlackBerry has released a statement on the CrackBerry forums, letting users know that it is “implementing additional measures” that add “greater strength and adhesive” to the KEYone’s display. KEYone units with this stronger adhesive are now beginning to hit retailers and carriers, and should continue to come in stock throughout the summer.
While most of us cant’t even conceive buying an Android-based tablet manufactured by anyone else than the already established names in the industry (Samsung, Asus, Motorola, Acer, and a few others), some smaller firms are trying to carve themselves a niche in the still very young Android tablet market.
With a glorious history going back over 70 years and still one of the most important camera manufacturers in the world, Polaroid is not exactly a small company, but we surely didn’t expect it to get in the Android tablet business anytime soon.
I still see having a home as the pinnacle of success, but there are always ways to make the experience of living in it that much better. That is where smart home devices come in, with three of them discounted for a limited time on Amazon.
First up is the Remo+ DoorCam, a wireless over-the-door smart security camera that can be placed either in the home or on the front door.
Back in 2012 Samsung was making deep inroads into Apple territory, stealing market share from the iPhone maker with a combination of compelling products and great marketing.
A series of ads mocked Apple’s notorious fans and painted the Cupertino company as boring and outdated. Apple struggled to fight back effectively, prompting marketing boss Phil Schiller to enviously complain about how “these [Samsung] guys are feeling it.”
Fast forward to 2017, and Samsung is back at it with a new ad that mocks the most fanatic of Apple enthusiasts and depicts the Note 8 as the fresh and innovative alternative to the plain old iPhone.
I miss the days of being a student – getting big discounts on everything from computers to public transit to movies. Apple Music has just given me another reason to consider going back to school: a 50% discount for student subscribers launching today.
