Google Assistant gets alarm-linked routines, broadcast responses, and more new features

Just yesterday, Google hosted a small event in San Francisco where it showed off a bunch of new features for the Google Assistant. Respond to broadcasts Almost exactly a year ago, Google introduced broadcasts. This feature allowed users to send messages through the Google Assistant-enabled speakers in their home.

Google Maps update brings directions for multiple destinations, reservations and upcoming events

Google on Wednesday announced new features for Google Maps, including support for directions for multiple destinations and new tools that will help users manage their reservations and upcoming events. Of these three new features, directions for multiple destinations seems to be the most exciting one, allowing Google Maps users to plan more detailed routes for their trips and include multiple stops. Once set up, the various destinations can be moved around up and down the list by simply dragging and dropping the stops.

Google Photos adds support for making Photo Books

Google is making it easier for users of its Google Photos app and service to create physical collections of their best images. As part of the Google I/O keynote speech, the company announced support for creating Photo Books from Google Photos online albums. Google Photos now lets you search for, copy/paste text in photos News Google says it should take just a few minutes to create a Photo Book inside Google Photos, because it will automatically put in what it thinks are the best photos to use in that book.

Huawei announces MediaPad M3 at IFA 2016

At IFA 2016 in Berlin, Huawei unveiled two new smartphones – the Nova and Nova Plus – as well as a new generation of its MediaPad M tablet line. The MediaPad M3 is an 8.4 inch tablet with a WQHD+ display, fingerprint reader and a dual 1-watt speaker system co-engineered with Harman Kardon. On the inside the MediaPad M3 uses Huawei’s own Kirin 950 processor together with 4GB RAM and either 32GB or 64GB storage. There is also a microSD card slot which allows the storage to be expanded by another 128GB.

Netflix app now available for UK Kindle Fire users

Netflix has been available for those in the UK for some time now. In fact, an Android app launched way back in January of this year. But while a regular Netflix for Android app has been available by way of Google Play, that hasn’t yet been of benefit for those sporting a Kindle Fire. Of course, we cannot fault Netflix all that bad considering the Kindle Fire has only been available for a few days now.

one-hour (!) deliveries in Manhattan

Amazon just introduced the latest perk for Prime subscribers: one-hour or less delivery of “tens of thousands of daily essentials.” Initially available in select parts of Manhattan, Amazon Prime Now lets users order stuff like “paper towels, shampoo, books, toys and batteries” and have it delivered at their doorsteps within an hour. The service is available between 6AM and 12PM seven days a week (no late night refill calls for you, at least not yet).

Purported Google Play Store 4.4 app screenshots tease changes coming with Android 4.4 KitKat

Alleged screenshots showing the next version of the Google Play Store Android app have apparently hit the web, detailing some new features that are supposedly coming soon – possibly together with the official Android 4.4 KitKat launch. Android Police has gotten its hands on the screenshots below, which reveal a complete redesign of the Play Store app in version 4.4. The images are certainly interesting, as they highlight Google’s continuous fine-tuning of its Play Store experience.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 NYC event wrap up

Samsung held an event in New York City earlier this evening as part of its Galaxy Note 2 World Tour, and we were there to see it happen. While there wasn’t any earth-shattering news revealed, the event was well received and devices were everywhere for the testing. Read on for a first-hand account of the event. Verizon LG V40 ThinQ update includes new selfie features

TL;DR The LG V40 ThinQ’s first update on Verizon includes new My Avatar and Augmented Selfie modes. The two new features focus on the selfie cameras instead of the three rear cameras. The update is now rolling out to V40 ThinQ owners on Verizon. It took about a month, but Verizon has just pushed out the first update to the LG V40 ThinQ. Instead of fine-tuning the three rear cameras, however, the update focuses on the two selfie cameras.
