If you visit the Facebook Portal listing over at Amazon.com, you’ll find plenty of five-star reviews of the smart display product. However, what you might not know is that a small handful of those glowing reviews are actually from Facebook employees.
That’s what Kevin Roose — tech columnist for The New York Times — exposed on Twitter earlier today. Roose didn’t use any secret trickery to find the clearly-biased reviews, he simply checked the names: three prominent Facebook employees used their own, full names to review the product.
There was a time when the only way to get decent cellular service in the United States was to chain yourself to a major provider with a lengthy contract. This model is slowly starting to change, as prepaid continues to catch on and more folks are ditching contracts for good. What if there was also a way to ditch phone service payments altogether?
We know that sounds a bit like crazy talk, but that’s exactly what FreedomPop is attempting to do with its brand new free phone service.
Easily one of the coolest features that debuted with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was air command, a then-new menu that contains commands such as Action Memo, Scrapbook, S Finder, Pen Window and more. Since then, the air command feature has also rolled out to other S-Pen equipped devices like the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014.
While air command is obviously built with the S-Pen in mind, the reality is that not all functions really need the stylus such as creating a floating window.
With the current flood of new and more powerful Android smartphones, the HTC EVO 4G may look like it’s an already old phone. Yet, although the HTC EVO 4G was released last year and was an instant hit, a lot of people today still have this Android smartphone as their primary device. Won’t it be great if users of the HTC EVO 4G could also enjoy the wonders of a rooted device?
Even though Xiaomi’s security app is meant to protect its devices and user data, researchers at security firm Check Point disclosed earlier today that the app did the opposite.
Called Guard Provider, the app uses anti-virus scanners from Avast, AVL, and Tencent to detect potential malware. With Android malware finding different ways to get onto your device, it’s not surprising to learn that Xiaomi pre-installs Guard Provider on all of its phones.
Wish that Cricket offered Muve Music with all of its Android smartphone plans? Wish granted.

Update (6/26):
Yep, Axon is indeed connected to ZTE. While it already seemed obvious this phone was related to ZTE, we havenow turned up a trademark for the Axon which belongs to the Chinese manufacturer. It’s still unclear if this is a whole new sub-brand or merely a new naming convention that is aimed at the US market. We’ll know soon enough, as the Axon is slated to launch on July 14th.

OnePlus’ Pete Lau has hinted at an always-on display in OxygenOS 11. There aren’t many clues, but you could see an analog clock on your screen. OnePlus has ticked more than a few of its remaining feature checkboxes with phones like the 8 Pro and Nord, but it now appears close to addressing one more: the always-on display.
Company chief Pete Lau has shared a teaser on Twitter that not-so-subtly hints at long promised always-on screen technology appearing in OxygenOS 11.
The Samsung versus Apple trial prepares to reach the jury verdict phase but a settlement is not completely out of the question. Judge Lucy Koh has previously asked Samsung and Apple CEOs to meet one last time in an attempt to reach some kind of a middle-ground before the case hits the jury for deliberation. The two parties already failed twice to reach a common ground in similar settlement discussions.
Now according to an anonymous source, the two sides have since agreed to an on-the-phone arrangement in order to hopefully reach a settlement.
